玄奘，唐朝著名的法師，俗名陳褘，西元前六○二年生於河南的儒學世家。祖上世代為官，操守清廉，也因此他出生時家境並不寬裕。
陳褘幼年便聰慧好學。十歲時，他因父親過世而決心出家，於是到二哥剃度的佛寺學習佛法。十三歲時剃度，法號玄奘；此時他已開始研究佛法，之後更四處講經，聲望極高。
