- It seems quite difficult to make costumes for women to wear at the same time trying not to make them so feminine.
Is there any tips for this?

By making costumes with men's large size for shoulders, women's medium size for waist, and men's mediums size length, I think it makes it look like the male characters in girl's comic.
It is my own technique! (lol)
Because of visual effect, large shoulder size, not only make the face size smaller, but also makes waist and hip smaller. I recommend this.

- So you are making costumes with using both men's and women's sizes!
It is a very helpful technique.

-Seemingly it is difficult for women to make costumes as they have to keep femininity in check.
Is there any trick?

When you make costumes for men, the shoulder width has to be of size L; for women, the waist size has to be M. If you make the height size M, you can make clothes for make characters from girls' comics.
That's a personal technic! Hahaha.
If you increase the shoulder width, the face looks smaller. I'd recommend it because it also makes the waist and hips smaller.

-So you mix sizes for men and women when making costumes!
We all could probably learn from that technique.

Other than sizes, it is the material.
I used to go to fashion design school. What a teacher had told me which I am really experiencing it myself is that "even if I use expensive, high-class material, it can not be made nicely if I don't have enough ability for sewing. Rather than using expensive, high-class material, it is possible to increase perfection by carefully making with materials that are easy for me to sew." That is one thing I can say, and I really think so.

- You mentioned about materials earlier when we were talking about a jacket of Sharurukan.

In addition to size, material is also important.
I used to go to a fashion design school, and there is something my teacher told me, which still feels true: "If you don't have the skill to saw well, you cannot have a beautiful finished product even though using quality material. It is better to use material that is easy to saw and work with care if you want to have a good finished product."
That's what my teacher said. I feel it's true.

Q: A while ago you mentioned material while discussing Sharrkan's suit, didn't you?

Yes, I did. When you learn how to sew, you can deal with difficult material, but you can have better results if you use inexpensive material that is easy to handle and you sew, draw pictures, and dye with care. Actually, most of my own costumes are made of cheap cloth. Haha.

Q: It's unbelieable! What's important is to sew with care.
With this Sharrkan costume, you graced the cover of a cosplay magazine!

Yes, I was on the cover of the "Cosmode" magazine. I appeared with King Sinbad and the eight generals! I had a lot of fun.

That's so, isn't it? If you memorize the sewing method, you will be able to sew the difficult material too.
However, if you politely sew, draw and dye a material, which is easy to be handled, you will end up with beautiful piece of work.
Actually, clothing used in my own work is mostly very cheap. LOL
Can not believe! Politeness is a point. Isn't it?
In this Challcan's cosplay, it seems as if the front cover of the magazine was also decorated.

I decorated the front cover of the Cosplay magazine of M/s [COSMODE].

Elastic band king being the center of attention, gathering of all the 8 commanders were the main highlights.

I learned how to take photos as watching a professional photographer shooting in front of me!
● I want to respect the feelings of happiness getting dressed just like the character I like.
- I heard that you have participated in domestic activities as well as many events abroad, but in which countries have you participated in these events so far?

I have been to China 4 times, Thailand 2 times and Singapore once.
At the end of September, I was summoned to the Philippines, and at the beginning of October to Taiwan.
It was really fun!

- Are there any differences between events overseas and in Japan?

I learned a lot by watching first-hand professional camera techniques!

●What I want value most is that the happiness I feel when I'm dressed like the character I love.

Q: I heard that you participate in many overseas events, not just ones in Japan. Where have you been to so far?

I've been to China 4 times, Thailand twice, and Singpore once. I was invited to the Philippines in late September and to Taiwan in early October. I had so much fun!

Q: what are differences at overseas events compared to events in Japan?

Also did the study of professional photography technology
in which even things in front of eyes can be seen in much different way.
● Feeling very happy since could be able to do my favorite character and style.I want to cherish those feelings.

-Not only in domestic activities also I have been participated in international events,
which are the countries where you have participated in the event so far?

I was allowed to participate, 4 times in China, 2 times in Thai and once in Singapore.
I have been called in Philippines at the end of September, in Taiwan in the October.
I am so happy !
- Are the intrenational events differ from Japan ?

In Japan, costume-playing events are held almost every week, and they seem to have become one part of daily life. But in other countries, only a few big events are held in one year.
For that reason, a massive number of people participated in one event, looking truly joyful.
Also, as contests for performances and costume playing were the main programs, there were a lot of gorgeous costumes and carefully made figurative arts, which added some glitz to the place.

In Japan cosplay events take place almost every week, so it already feels like a part of your daily life, but overseas there are a few major events every year.
For this reason, many people attend one event and they seem to be really enjoying themselves.
Also, performances and cosplay contests have been main events, and you can see gorgeous costumes and impressive creations, so these events are very colorful.

Most attendees are enjoying themselves and the event's atmosphere and chatting with their friends, rather than being absorbed in taking pictures of cosplay.

Q: I see. Because there are only few events, each event is going to be more exciting and condensed.
What is the episode you still remember clearly while you were overseas?

I had the most fun at Singapore's event. I spent a few days with representatives from other Asian countries, but there was no translator around, I did my best to remember English. Haha.

Even cosplayers who have participated in the event along with other peoples they enjoy the event atomsphere more and have a chat with friends, rather than being absorbed in the photography.

-Well, an event is a little part,at sometimes it is a excitement part of climax.
Are there any episodes in the international events which kept impression behind ?

I have most enjoyed an event in Singapore.
I have spent few days together with representatives(about 18 people) of Asian countires, since there was no interpreter, I desperately remember the English conversation.

I had a hard time communicating, but I discovered that we can understand without knowing the language!

Q: That's a wonderful memory. Of course, when you share the same interest, you can overcome the language barrier.

But at the event, the host and I went up on the stage, and suddenly he started asking me questions in English. I went like, "Oh my God! What am I going to do?" Haha.
But kids who knew Japanese helped me out, but I almost panicked.

Q: Thank you for your time. Lastly, I'd like you to share your thoughts on cosplay.

Though it was hard but I could feel that even if the words do not get communicated, the heart does.
Isn't it a great memory! Of course you can cross over the wall of language if you have same interests.

However, in the event, I climbed up the stage with the Chairman and suddenly interviewed in English. It was like "What to do?" LOL
Though I was helped by the children present in the auditorium who understood Japanese but still I panicked a lot.
But I could make great memories in both the cases.

Thank you.
Well, at last, please tell your feelings regarding cosplay.

It was difficult, but still I felt that, heart is understanding the things which even words can not convey.
-Those are the great memories! Though the hobby is same but now I am beyond the language barrier.

At the time of event, two people with chairman came on stage and suddenly started interview in English,
truely I was like "What do I do now.."(Smile).
The kid in the hall, who had knowledge of Japanese language helped me out, still I was in rush.
But anyways these are really nice memories.
-Thank you very much.
Finally, please do think about the Cosplay.

Since I started cosplay, when I noticed, long months and years had already passed, but as a method to express the works you like, I don't think there are any impossibilities in cosplay.

There are many things which depress me and make me think, "This won't do!", but more than feelings like "I want to level up more!" or "I want to look more alike!", I want to treasure the feeling of "when I can have the same appearance as a character I like from a work I like, I am happy" the most from now on as well. Because if I forget that feeling, I think somehow I will become a bit strange.

Before I knew it, many years have passed since I started doing cosplay. I think nothing is impossible in cosplay as a way to express your favorite manga.

Sometimes you feel frustrated and depressed, but you need to keep in mind that you feel happy because you're dressed in the same way as your favorite character, instead of feeling frustrated when you try to improve your level and want to be more like your favorite character. If you forget that feeling, you may lose what is important.
