SAP to Pump $2 Billion Into China, Bring 2,000 New JobsAt an event in Beijing this afternoon, the enterprise application vendor SAP (NYSE:SAP; ETR:SAP) announced spending plans for more than US$2 billion, stretching ahead to 2015, in order to grow its business in China. The plan will nearly double the amount of its employees here.SAP already has six offices in China, and a major R&D facility in Shanghai that employs over 400 people alone. Today the German company outlined four key areas where that extra expenditure will be used to scale its China operations:
1. More investment in its SAP Labs in China. 2. Hire approximately 2,000 more people through 2015, as a part of increasing its market presence in China, with “five to six new offices across the country” to enable all that. 3. To scale SAP support in the region. 4. By greater outreach to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China, which the company says will benefit the entire IT ecosystem in the country. In a press release, SAP’s president for the China region, Hera Siu, described all this as a significant, “increased level of commitment” in the country.SAP says it has just over 1,500 enterprise-level customers in the country at present.

I’m very sorry for how this transaction has gone.We have been selling these saws in advance of delivery for over six months now. This is the 1st time we had this kind of problem. You can tell that from our feedback.I know that gives you little comfort when you don’t have your saw in hand and your hard earned money has been spent. This has been racking my nerves and I know what’s going on. So I can imagine how you feel not knowing if you’ve been “scammed” on eBay.We have finally gotten your saw and chains shipped. We had a problem with the UPS system giving us error messages yesterday that we had to sort out with tech support.
At a street intersection there is no policeman, no written sign. But the light turns red, and the drivers stop. Then it turns green, and they start moving once more. That light is just as full of meaning as though the words "Stop " and "Go" were spoken or written. Signals recongnized by the eye can take many forms. There are signal fires and smoke signals. There are signal flags, used especially at sea to convey all sorts of complicated messages.
Words like mama, papa, and dada are very easy to pronounce - they consist of very simple sounds arranged into very simple syllables - and they are a natural by-product of children's spontaneous expressions. In fact, "mama"-like sounds have been found in children's speech starting from as early as two weeks of age up to around five months, usually when they want something ( such as wanting to be picked up or wanting food).
Furthermore, global warming has accelerated the melting of glaciers and the polar ice caps. As a result, the sea level has been rising, threatening the existence of many low-lying islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, for example, Tuvalu and the Maldives. On the other hand, droughts and famines have become more severe and widespread than in the past.
How is climate change affecting the water crisis? Another aspect of the water crisis ---too much water ---is a consequence of global climate change. At the Third World Water Forum held in Kyoto in 2003, experts predicted that by 2025 half the world's population will experience extreme weather conditions like floods and droughts. Indeed, major flood disasters have been increasing: six in the 1950s, eight in the 1970s, eighteen in the 1980s, and twenty-six in the 1990s.
Fourth, there is regional competition for scarce water resources. These conflicts have sometimes led to armed conflict. Fifth, waterborne diseases transmitted through drinking water and inadequate sanitation are major causes of disease around the world, especially for children under age five. More than 2.5 billion people don't have a sanitary way of getting rid of urine and feces, which is over 40 percent of the world's population. Each year 1.8 million children die from diseases .
Improve maternal health. We need to improve the conditions for women giving birth and provide universal access to specialized healthcare. Nearly 14,000 women and girls die each day from complications of pregnancy and childbirth.
Educating girls gives them an equal chance to improve their lives and avoid poverty. Moreover, it leads to greater economic growth and prosperity for a country.Reduce child mortality. More than 10 million children in developing countries die each year from preventable illnesses. In these countries, 1 child in 10 dies before its fifth birthday from illnesses such as malaria, diarrhea, respiratory disease, and HIV. The goal is to reduce the mortality rate among children under five by two thirds.
Many children do not attend school because their families cannot afford to pay school fes. Other children need to work to help support their family, or their parents think that girls should stay at home and do chores.Promote gender equality and empower women. It is essential to eliminate the gender gap in primary and secondary education. In Southern Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, more than 20 percent of the girls do not attend high school.
Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. More than 1 billion people live on less than 1 dollar a day including 238 million young people. The first goal is to reduce this figure by 50 percent by achieving full employment and decent work for all. By doing so, this goal aims to reduce the proportion of people suffering from hunger by 50 percent as well. Achieve universal primary education. Without primary education for all, progress on the other goals will be difficult.
What is the Millennium Declaration? In 2000, delegates from 189 countries pledged to work together at the UN Millennium Summit to make the world better for everyone by 2015 or sooner. They signed the Millennium Declaration, which set eight goals for eliminating poverty, improving health, and achieving human rights. These goals are known as the Millennium development Goals. Below and on the following pages is summary of these goals.
One day the technology to enter virtual reality worlds that seem as real as the real world will be invented. It'll be sort of like the virtual world that can be seen in the movie, "The Matrix," except it will be ran as a service by (evil) companies that we'll have to pay for, instead of by evil machines that want to enslave us, I think. When that happens, we'll have the technology to setup a special place that all of our friends from both America and Japan can gather anytime they want to!
The article went on to point out that these aren't just businesses and products, but it is a way of life that is being promoted. And it isn't just any way of life, but one which is very sweet and commercial. Can we call it a Mickey Mouse way of life? As an example, the Brooks' article compares the differences between the little mermaid in the original Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and the Disney version.
Recently a new disney theme park opened up in Hong Kong. A week before its official opening, and article entitled "Mickey Mouse Morals Come to Asia" by Dr. Karen Brooks appeared in an Australian newspaper. Dr.Brooks' article mentioned that along with this theme park will come many other American/Disney-related businesses --movies, plus music, videos, dolls, dishes, and everything from those Disney movies. Disney-related TV stations, radio programs, and hotel chains will appear everywhere.
The Man from Ironbark Banjo Paterson (1892)It was the man from Ironbark-village who went to Sydney-city.He wandered around the streets and parks, he wandered up and down.He walked over here, he walked over there, until he was so tired he could fall down.He was so bored and desperate he went into the nearest barber shop and said,“Shave my beard and style my hair, I’ll look like a ‘Cool Businessman’, from Sydney, when I go home to my small farming village at Ironbark”.
Because they are more economically secure, they do not need many children to help support the family. Furthermore, these parents can afford better health care so the infant mortality rate is low. Thus, in affluent families, children are healthier, receive better education, and have better career options. Not surprisingly, data shows that these families have fewer children on average. Germany and Japan are examples of affluent societies with low birth rates.
Children raised in poverty do not have adequate access to education and employment opportunities. As a result, they tend to stay poor all their lives. Their own children grow up in poverty and repeat the cycle in the next generation. On the other hand, higher levels of education and income are closely related to smaller family szes. People who have more education get beeter jobs and have more money.
