高倍率ズームでAVCHD Lightのフォーマットで動画も記録でき、且つサイズも携帯しやすいサイズに収まっているので、本モデルを購入しました。
【画質】
高倍率ズームなので、あまり画質は期待していませんでしたが、日常のスナップ写真向けには十分なものです。 また、テレ端でも解像度の劣化も少なく好印象です。
同時にビーチや水中撮影向けにDMC-FT1も購入しましたが、同条件で比較すると明らかにFZ7の方が画質は上です。

FZ7が1000万画素でFT1が1200万画素ということに惑わされて、通常利用ではFT1を選択しない方が良いです。
【動画】
モードも関係なしに気楽に動画が撮影できて便利です。コンデジの動画ということでは、満足いくものですが、ハイビジョン・ビデオカメラの置き換えになるレベルでは正直ないです。
特筆する点は、動画撮影中も光学ズームが利用でき、ズーム音も殆んど気になりませんし、音声もステレオでドルビーデジタル対応です。

動画撮影中は静止画を撮ることができませんが、実際には動画撮影中に静止画を高画質で撮影したいことは多々あるので、今後の製品での対応に強く期待します。
【操作性】
動画の撮影ボタンが、静止画のシャッターボタンと分かれているのには、賛否両論があるようですが、個人的には背面の撮影ボタンでも慣れればそれほど押しにくいものではなく、撮影モードがなくなったメリットの方が大きいと思います。
十字キーの真ん中のボタンの役割が一定でないので、最初は非常に困惑します。

真ん中のボタンは常識的には決定を連想しますので、戻る等には割り振らないでもらいたいものです。
キャノンのコンデジのように撮影後のオートレビューをOFFにした場合は、シャッターボタンを押している間は撮影した画像を表示し続ける機能があると便利です。（シャッターチャンスを逃したくないので、オートレビューをOFFにして利用するので）
ズームの倍率を思った画角に調整するのに少々時間が費やすことがあるので、この点も改善を期待したい点です。

It doesn’t last that long so I feel uncomfortable if I don’t carry around a spare battery with me.
It only takes battery with an authentication feature so you have to buy an original battery at this moment which is expensive.

高倍率ズームが希望で、それなりにコンパクトで、動画もHDで撮影中の光学ズームが可能で、画質も満足できるレベルという選択基準では、FZ7は現状のコンデジの中ではお勧めできる機種だと思います。
なお、顔の個人認証等の新機能は興味がないので、利用していませんので評価していません。このような機能を強化するよりは、高感度時のノイズの低減やダイナミックレンジの向上等、
デジタルカメラの本質的な機能強化に開発の時間を割いてもらいたいものです。

My criteria for selecting compact digital camera was, a camera with a high magnification zoom, relatively-small in size, and able to shoot HD video using optical zoom delivering image quality which can be satisfied. Based on above, FZ7 will be the one I can recommend among the current model.
By the way, I won’t review about the Face-Recognition function since I have no interest and I’m not using it. Instead of enhancing these functions, I would like the manufacturer to dedicate more time into development of strengthen the essential function of the digital camera, such as noise reduction at the high sensitivity range and dynamic range improvement.

It has a high magnitude zoom, is quite compact movie is HD, can use the optical zoom during filming,, and the image quality is satisfactory. So with all that, FZ, among all current compact digital cameras, I can recommend it.
I am not very interested in the new features like face recognition, so I do not give a comment on them. I think it would be better to strengthen the basic functions such as reducing noises in high sensitivity or increasing the dynamic range rater than adding new features that are not critical.
