Japan's version of the horsemeat scandal has since spread to several household names in catering. While, as in Britain, no one has fallen ill from eating mislabelled produce, the outbreak of anger shows no sign of abating.

Korean matchmaking app, IUM, makes US$500K a month. Sister app, Hey, was rolled out for the global market, but targets singles in Singapore, Hong Kong & Taiwan

Some might say that love only knocks but once on your door. But for users of Hey, an iOS and Android app launched globally three weeks ago, opportunity knocks three times a day.

Users would receive a push notification on their smartphones and see blurred out avatars. They can then check out their matches and profiles for free. However, should they wish to chat with other users, they will have to use in-app currency to make contact.

Former Kingsoft PowerWord CEO Launched Cambridge WoWo, Smart Voice-based Early Education Service

Jia Lin, former CEO of leading free online dictionary Kingsoft PowerWord, founded Cambridge WoWo, an early childhood English education service with focus on kids between three to six years old (report in Chinese). The firm has received angel investment from Wang Donghui, founder of Ameba Capital and former CFO of Kingsoft.

Cambridge WoWo integrates the contents provided by traditional educators into smart interactive courseware and offers it to both kindergartens (2B) and parents (2C). The highlight of this courseware is that it can recognize the pronunciation of kids to realize human-computer interaction.

Huib comes from a village called Varik, in the Netherlands that has a population of about 2,000. Director of JFI, Novistiar Rustandi says those startups passed very strict tests to experience the program. He adds that the program itself is opened to everyone, somehow only those who have the potential and strong characters are accepted. That’s because JFI is committed to giving the real experience for startups where they will be given ‘special yet tough assignments’. One such assignment is to make a market survey for 500 to 1,000 people in only two days. Novistiar says only those with strong character could pass such a test.

Adtik is an Android cross-promotion network. Founded by Alan Chang, Adtik aims to help Indonesian Android developers who have no or little marketing budget to promote their products for free. It is done by exchanging installs with other Android apps in the network. Besides promoting their apps for free, the developers will also get profit from the commission.

Founder of Babybind, Alexander Winata, says that the app will launch sometime in October this year. Babybind got the third place award of the best graduates on this batch.
