Magi, which is currently being serialised in Shuukan Shounen Sunday and was made into a TV anime since October 7 2012.
It is a very popular shounen manga drawn with a detailed world view that crosses over the frame of fairy tales, with Arabian Nights (1001 Nights) characters like Aladdin and Ali Baba as models.
This time, I have the honour of interviewing Ms Reika, who is doing a cosplay of Sharrkan, a character full of exotic charm from that popular manga "Magi".

Magi, currently being serialized in Syukan Syonen Sunday and has become a TV anime from October 7, 2012.

It is a very popular Shonen (Boy) cartoon drawn as well-thought-out interpretation of the world beyond the frame of fairy tale and the character of Aladdin, Ali Baba and Arabian Nights ( Arabian Nights' Entertainments) was used as a model.

This time, I was allowed to interview the character appearing in the famous manga(animation) Magi and an exotic with full of charm who played the cosplay of Sharurukan, Mr, Reika.

－まずは麗華さんご自身のことについて教えてください。

こんにちは、麗華です。主に大阪でコスプレ活動をしています。
コスプレ歴は17年位です。O型のいて座。
趣味はバンド活動と旅行で、よく一人旅をしています。

－色々な作品のコスプレをされている麗華さん。
これまでにどれくらいの数のキャラクターのコスプレをしましたか？

Hello! I'm Reika. I've been doing activities of costume play mostly in Osaka. It's been 17 years since I stared doing it. My blood type is O, and my star sign is the Archer. I like to play in a band and travel, and I often go on a trip on my own.

マギはどんなきっかけで興味を持ったのでしょうか？

友人に勧められて読み始めました。
王道少年漫画ということで、何よりも漫画の面白さに惹かれて。
シンドバッドが出てくる頃にはかなり夢中になって読み進めていました。

新しく登場するキャラクターがどれも魅力的で、ぐいぐい引き寄せられましたね。
そんなわけで、当初は漫画が面白くて、萌える！とは思ってなかったのですが。
シンドリア編でシャルルカンが出て来た時に、運命の人が出て来た！と思いました(笑)

Q: How did you get interested in Magi?

I started reading it on a friend's recommendation. I was drawn into this odo shōnen manga. By the time Sinbad appeared, I had been totally absorbed.

Every new character was so attractive that I was pulled into the story.
So at first the manga was so fascinating that I was completely hooked.
When Sharrkan appeared in the Sindria episode, I thought this was my fate! Hahaha.

Q: That's when the eight generals of Sindria show up!

How did you become interested in Magi?

I began to read it through the recommendation of a friend. As one of the best teenager comics, I found the comic quite interesting. By the time Sindibaad came out I really start to become attracted to this comic and continued reading it.

Moreover I found the new characters appear in the comics charming and fits the story well. However I did not became hooked to this comic at first glance. It wasn't until Sindibaad came out in the Shindoria chapter that I thought he is my prince charming (laugh).

-It was about the time when the 8 generals of Shindoria appeared!

I became interested of Syarurukan by his first appearance. Partly because I thought he was handsome, but as the story progresses I also became attracted to his character. －すごく細かい作りの衣装に見えますが、制作期間はどのくらいですか？

最初は撮影のスケジュールに合わせて衣装を作ったこともあり、
70％位の完成度で着る事になってしまいました。制作日数は一日でした。
その後、色々手直しをしたので、全部で二日間くらいになります。

－一番工夫したポイントはどこでしょうか？

上着の形です。漫画独特のふわっとしているけど形はしっかりしている。と言う感じを出すのが大変でした。
柔らかな雰囲気だけを再現しようとすると、思い通りにならないので襟に針金を仕込んでいます。

普通に肩から羽織るだけだと、すぐに袖の下まで落ちてしまうんです。

－確かに原作のシャルルカンの衣装は、肩がはだけてるけど脱げてしまうことはないですよね。
金色の前垂れも雰囲気があって素敵です！

この衣装で一番手間をかけた部分です！
合皮の上にライオンボードを貼付けて塗装して、その上から水性ニスをつや出しとして塗っています。ポイントはピカピカ光らせるのではなく、ダメージを表現したことです。
塗装は大きなハケで全体を塗ってから、細い筆で少し汚れた金属っぽく見えるように影を入れています。

まずは出来るだけ顔を真っ白にする所から始めるので、それが大変です(笑)

元々宝塚が好きなので、男装ならではの美しさを出したいと思っています。
リアルな男性の格好良さだけを追求するよりも、少し派手な方がコスプレっぽいのかなと思っています(笑)。
後は女性のシルエットにならないよう気をつけています。
今回のシャルルカンであれば、首から肩にかけてのラインがポイントだと思っていたので、女性っぽさが出ない程度に気をつけながら、首周りを大きくあけました。
女性同士で撮影する事も多いので、体格差をいかに自然に出すかも重要視していますね。
