Pressy Button, a small gadget for Android devices, landed on Kickstarter in August 2013. It drew much media attention as it met its fundraising goal in a single day. Two months later the project ended up with more than 7 times of its goal in funding from more than 28 thousand contributors.

Before long Pressy would come across many Pressy Buttons on Alibaba.com, the marketplace ran by Alibaba Group for Chinese to sell goods overseas. The search query “Pressy” returns a lot of results featuring Pressy Button. None of them, of course, is by Pressy team.

The minor differences include 1) instead of enabling checking in on social networks, Quick Button shows group-buying or restaurants nearby– it doesn’t say which third-party apps it gets content from; 2) while Pressy helps instantly close all running apps, Quick Button thinks such an gadget should be used for opening apps.

Qihoo said the project came out of an internal contest for engineers and was designed by four fresh college graduates. The button will be produced by a third-party manufacturer. Qihoo plans to sell the gadget at a price lower than 10 yuan (a little more than $1.5).

Crowdfunding ecosystem doesn’t seems like a place that copycats can get away with. Backers are so important to the ecosystem. It’ll be interesting to see the reactions of backers whenever they find out the idea they back with money and love is actually stolen from elsewhere. Greedy venture capital may don’t care to invest in a mere copy, but backers of ideas on platforms like Kickstarter are not only for certain products or returns. The Chinese backer of Pressy said he’d ask for refund right away if the product turns out to be a counterfeit.

Alibaba invests $15 million in US-based luxury e-commerce site

New York-based 1stdibs, an online American retailer for fancy interior design, decoration and fashion, just raked in $15 million in series C funding from Chinese e-commerce titan Alibaba, according to Recode.

In business for 13 years, 1stdibs (terrible name for such a high-brow retailer, by the way) isn’t exactly a startup anymore. It’s raised $117 million from previous investors, most of it since 2011.

The strategic investment will help Alibaba better serve China’s fast-growing consumer market for high-dollar luxury goods. 1stdibs CEO David Rosenblatt notes one-third of his company’s business is outside the US.

Here’s a weird one from Lenovo – a 28-inch 4K monitor wrapped around a (sort of) portable Android computer-cum-tablet. It has a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, which makes it great for watching 4K HD content. But when you’re poking around Android, it’s actually just scaled up from 1080p resolution. It has a 500GB spinning drive, so it might feel odd without the SSD we’re used to with a mobile OS. But a Tegra 4 processor should keep it snappy.

I am glad to hear that. I am also interested in Germany.My mates have been several times to Berlin for the music and they love it. I went on a road trip to Sweden in August with a friend and managed to spend a night in Brehnam, it was very nice.But I still wanto see alot in Germany.
