In this series, it is a series that will explain the basic of development management for start up while doing the case study of「FxCamera」.
シリコンバレーではアジャイル開発用語が共通言語となっており、スタートアップにおける最も基本的な前提知識になっています。スマートフォン時代が到来し、日本のスタートアップも、これからは世界のプレイヤーと戦うシーンが増えてくるなか、正しくアジャイル開発を理解し、効率よく開発を展開していかないと負けてしまいます。

*Like in the arrival of the smartphone era, as for Japanese startups (companies), in order not to lose, they must understand the correct Agile development with much efficiency, as world players fighting in the scene are increasing.
「FxCamera」は東京を拠点とするスタートアップ、ビットセラーが開発する無料カメラアプリです。世界225の国と地域のユーザーから、累計2,000万回以上ダウンロードされている世界No.2のカメラアプリです。日本のスタートアップで、ここまで幅広く世界に利用されているモバイルサービスは多くありません。世界に通用するモバイルサービスがどのように開発されているのか？この連載を通して、具体的に説明をしていきたいと思います。
アジャイル開発についての書籍も何冊か読んだけど、実践できていないスタートアップも、意外と多いのではないでしょうか？この連載を読めば、立ち上げ途中のスタートアップで、アジャイル開発の方法論を、とにかく現場で実践できるよう執筆していきたいと思います。
第1回：バズワードとしての「アジャイル開発」
「アジャイル開発」「リーンスタートアップ」「ピボット」・・・
この1年ほどで、上記の用語を目にしたり、耳にする機会がとても多くなりました。そしてこの1年ほどで、多くのスタートアップが生まれ、そのうちの多くが消えていきました。横目に見ながら、こんなことを思っていました。
「アジャイル開発」とは「場当たり的な」開発のことを言うのでしょうか？
「リーンスタートアップ」とは「中長期的な計画を持たない会社」のことを言うのでしょうか？
"Agile software development", "lean startup", "pivots"...
Within a year's time, the chances of encountering them in print and hearing of them has greatly increased. With that, many startups have not only emerged and many of which have disappeared. With a sidelong glance, the following comes to mind. Is this thing called "Agile software development", referring a form of "haphazard" development? Is a "lean startup" referring to "a firm that has no plan to exist in the long run"?

For more than a year, there was a great chance in seeing and hearing the above terms. Then for another year, many startups (companies) were founded, many of which afterwards soon disappeared. While side glancing (being suspicious), here are what I thought of.
Is "Agile (software) development" what you call "ad-hoc (impromptu)" development?
Also, is a "Lean startup" what you call "a company that does not have a medium to long-term planning"?
「ピボット」とは「諦め礼賛主義」のことを言うのでしょうか？
「うちはアジャイルな感じなので、臨機応変にやっていますね」とドヤ顔で口にするスタートアップがとても多かったように感じるのです。
「中長期の事業戦略やマイルストーンを明確に定めず、場当たり的な対応に終始するマネージメントをした結果、サービス展開に行き詰まれば、サービス（≒ 機能）の継続を諦め、また新しいサービス（≒ 機能）を立ち上げ、方向転換をする。
In recent times, it is believed that there have been many startups that say "We follow the Agile system, so we just play by ear".
Without setting the milestones and enterprise strategies for the long haul, they change their focus by employing a reactionary management style by ending the development of services (and functions) and move on to develop new services (and functions) instead.
成功するまでそのループ（イテレーション）を繰り返すのが、世界で主流なスタートアップの流儀である」
ここまで書くと極論ですが、このようなネガティブ・ループに陥りかけているスタートアップが少なからずいるのも現実だと思います。追加の資金調達をすることや、大手企業との業務提携、優秀な人材の獲得、ウルトラCを組み込んだ秀逸な事業戦略の立案・・・まずその前に、日々の仕事の進め方を見直し、1歩1歩少しでも前に進んでいく体制を作ることを取り組んでください。
I think, though written in exaggeration so far, startups (companies) that fall into this negative loop is in no small way the truth. The additional funding, business alliances with leading companies, the acquisition of talents (people skills), excellent business strategies that incorporate Ultra C... But first before that, reviewing the daily ways of working, make efforts in making a system that progresses step-by-step, even small ones.
「アジャイル開発」とは、「持続可能な成長を実現するための開発手法」です。「勢いがあるのはローンチして1ヶ月だけ」ではなく、「継続的にきちんと成果を積み上げていき、どんなプロダクトでも開発・運営できるようにする手法」です。
ビットセラーも、開発体制が固まるまでに多くの失敗と苦労をしてきました。幸いプロダクトが強力で、開発体制が未熟でもユーザー数が伸び、サービスは成長していましたし、大規模な資金調達を実施したことにより、開発体制構築に時間とコストをかけることができました。
ビットセラーほど運に恵まれているスタートアップはありません。しかし、多くのスタートアップは、そこまで多くの運に恵まれているとは限らないと思います。私たちの失敗や苦労を、是非、アジアの多くのスタートアップの今後に活かして頂きたいと思います。
第1回の今回は、この連載の目的と、問題提起までで終わりたいと思います。
