If you fasten the lever handle, it can stop gas leakage.
In case of compression fitting, it can also remove, however to stop gas leakage, you need something like bag-type nut(what is the correct name?).

If you take it off frequently, it is better with a ball valve,
but if you use it not so often, then just compression fitting would be fine.
