Chinese phone maker Xiaomi has been slapped with an injunction from a high court in India, which bans the sale of Xiaomi phones in the country.

Ericsson, one of the world’s biggest telecommunications equipment providers and holder of many vital patents that allow smartphones to connect to mobile networks, is behind the injunction. The Swedish mobile heavyweight alleges Xiaomi infringed on its patents.

Update on December 12: Xiaomi’s head of international Hugo Barra responded on Facebook to the injunction on behalf of the Mi India team:

So China doesn’t seem to be an ideal battleground for companies like Qualcomm and Ericsson to take on domestic phone manufacturers. However, now that Xiaomi is moving beyond China’s borders into countries like India, it’s much more vulnerable. Every country Xiaomi enters presents a new opportunity for Ericsson to sue, and India is a huge market that Xiaomi badly wants a piece of.

Uber now banned in Delhi, India for “misleading customers”

Uber is now banned in Delhi. Drivers found using the system will be fined, according to reports

US-based taxi-booking app Uber has today been blacklisted by India’s Delhi government for “misleading customers”, according to The Economic Times.

This move comes after a woman in New Delhi, the capital, was reported to have been raped by an Uber driver on the job. The driver was said to be a repeat sex offender, who was jailed seven months for a rape charge. He was later acquitted after a private compromise had taken place between him and the victim, reported The Times of India. Additionally, according to The Indian Express, Uber had not conducted a proper background check.

Drivers found to be using Uber in Delhi can be issued a fine. The exact penalty is still unclear.
