Around you RC and engine people ,you must be look like advanced one, so you are not easy to ask people about basic knowledge about that. Right? haha
Please Get lots of the skills from them!

If you start it with OH, ignition timing, and board processing etc.,first,
you would be lose interesting about the running it. so I just recommend you do it from moderate level.
