同サミットは国際北極科学委員会により毎年開催され、北極に関する研究協力などが議論される。2015年は同委員会の設立 25 周年に当たり、分科会などのビジネス会合に加えて、北極研究の 10 年計画を議論する会議（ICARPⅢ）や国際北極研究シンポジウム（ISAR-4）などが開催される。

The summit is held yearly by International Arctic Science Committee to discuss research related to the Arctic.
