Splaype E-Fosters Relationships Between You and Your Children
Contrary to most girls who are satisfied with just one child or none, I’ve always aspired to have four. Because fellow blogger Willis foresees that I will be a crazily busy career mother who’ll probably have no time for her kids in the future, he had my future baby plans in mind and pushed assigned me the duty to interview Splaype co-founder, Meri Rosich.
Splaype will be no stranger to those who attended the recent Demo Asia event. In a nutshell, Splaype is a new desktop application plugged into Skype that helps solve the problem of keeping your kids engaged during video-conferences with long-distance family members. It adds age-appropriate video-conferencing content and games such as reading e-books or playing tic-tac-toe to facilitate communication between family and friends. The folks at Splaype had it specially designed for children and grandparents, so it’s an intuitive and easy-to-use system. What’s more, it’s free.
The content within Splaype is aimed at children aged up to twelve. Upon launching Splaype, it will be placed right next to Skype and then both parties will have access to that curated selection of synchronised content. I would love to experience this myself, but unfortunately Splaype is only available on Windows at the moment – but Meri assures us that the Mac app will come really soon.
Meri is a mother of two (pictured right with her son) and has traveled across the globe for years. She understood from her video-conferencing experiences that we all face a small problem. “It is great for adults but while children love technology and adapt quickly to interfaces, their short attention span makes video-conferencing very hard,” Meri explains. “That makes it very challenging to build relationships across continents with family members.”
But let’s face the fact, computer mediated communication (CMC) will never replace the real face-to-face (F2F) communication where you get to touch and feel your loved ones. It’s different. However, as we become more mobile and global, apps like Splaype could be the next best alternative to foster relationships between you and your kids. For daddies and mummies out there who travel often but yet do not want to miss out on the growing-up stage where your kids are at their cutest, you gotta have Splaype.
Splaype beta software is currently available by invitation only. Its headquarters is in Singapore and the team is currently looking for the right strategic partner to engage in a long-term relationship, to bring in the right skills as well as connections.
