The teams have until the end of 2015 to get to the Moon. There are 25 teams from all over the world in this contest, such as Astrobotic, a potential winner who have a contract with NASA on technology development. There is also a team participating from Japan.

White Label Space (WLSJ) started its project on a cloud funding service, Campfire, because, as stated above, space exploration is very expensive. If they win the Google Lunar X Prize, they will win a total of $30 million in prizes, but the development and the launching of the rocket that will take the rover to the moon involve substantial cost.
