This year, MaGIC is rebranding its event to MaGIC Academy 2015 (MA 2015).The curriculum and topics will be split in two tracks that would target two different kinds of audiences.

Track 2 will focus on business ideas that would also bring positive impact to a social problem, whether it’s about poverty alleviation, environmental sustainability or access to education.

MA 2015 aims to help startups at all stages in the areas of business model and development, talent and culture, finance and funding, talent and culture, and marketing and operations through talks and workshops.

In the workshops, participants will be exposed to actual skills and knowledge provided by experienced instructors and speakers from various industries and backgrounds.

The talks will feature prominent industry experts such as Humin’s Senior Product Manager Arielle Zuckerberg, COO of 99 designs Jason Sew, as well as investors such as Hideki Fujita from SEGNEL Ventures.

The workshops and talks are created as a result of MaGIC’s engagement with the local entrepreneurs, particularly through Entrepreneurs Dialogue (ED) — a collaborative effort with other agencies that works on growing the tech startup space.

MaGIC, which has a government fund of RM50 million (estimated US$11.4 million) and had its headquarters officially opened by US President Barack Obama, wants to be instrumental in enabling its local startups. Through its programmes, it wants to make Malaysia an attractive destination for expatriate tech companies.

And no, there is no sleigh of hand or illusion involved.

Netflix eyes Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan; but will it score?

There is no stopping this train as it seeks to trailblaze its way to video streaming dominance in the global market. Question is, will it succeed?

Hot on the heels of its launch in Japan, South Korea expansion announcement and a possible partnership with Chinese media firms, Netflix is now set to launch in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan by early 2016.

The US-based video streaming behemoth — which has a US$1.7 billion funding raised through debt financing and private equity — will be streaming a curated selection of popular TV shows and films on most Internet-capable screens. The subscription fees for these countries have yet to be disclosed.

To compound Netflix’s woes, video-streaming TV boxes are also seeing a rise in popularity.

These devices cost only as low as S$120 (estimated US$85) and allow you to stream films and popular TV shows from as low as US$4.99.

When the author visited a shop selling Xiaomi’s Mi Box, he discovered that it could stream many channels such as FOX News and HBO at no cost. It was also able to stream the latest Hollywood films such as Southpaw for free (though the legality of it is definitely questionable despite assurances from the shop’s staff).

Even without the availability of such alternative avenues, Netflix might still have to face an upheld climb in Asia. Media piracy is still rampant in the region, accounting for 30 per cent of global piracy. In Singapore alone, there are 300,000 cases of illegal downloading per month.

To plant a stake in the Asia market, Netflix will need to not only offer competitive prices, but come up with a rock-solid and unique value proposition for Asian consumers.

Paypal手数料が7790円かかり、配送料が54126円、代行手数料が2360円で既にわたしは7446円のマイナスです。

I am going to honestly tell you a breakdown of sales.
The proceeds from sale were 198,830 yen and the cost of the speakers was 142,000 yen.
The PayPal handling fees were 7,790 yen, the shipping cost was 54,126 yen and the agency commission was 2,360 yen. At this point, I lost 7,446 yen.
A part of my loss was caused by a mistake about the shipping cost on my side and I think I have to be responsible for the loss.
However, further loss of this sale would be hard for me to make ends meet. It is difficult to compensate for this unless the post office insurance is used.

2. Recruitment
