Evaluations
Honesty is even more vital in offering evaluations or constructive criticism. If you never tell an individual about the things that are reducing effectiveness on the job, you allow the behaviors to grow and become reinforced. Often a supervisor is uncomfortable discussing areas of weakness or confronting areas of less-than-acceptable results. That uneasy feeling is not necessarily bad. It can be an indicator that the boss needs to pay special attention to the subject and deal with it honestly and positively.
Once again, avoid general or categorical statements: "You never do this right," or "Your work is really not very good."
