3. Kaixin001 Goes Aggressively On Mobile With New iOS App

Kaixin001, the SNS site that is seeing significant decline in traffic and user activity, has just released its new iOS app, which is an ambitious combination of LBS service, Instagram and microblogging.

With the new app, users get to check-in, check out strangers who’re nearby (like Weixin) and exchange business cards (like Bumper) and post pictures (with similarities to Instagram).

Miqi Raises RMB Tens Of Millions From DT Capital Partners

Miqi.cn, a group buying vertical focusing on cosmetics has just announced raising RMB tens of millions ($1.5m) in Series A from DT Capital Partners and is on track to raise Series B round of funding. Ma Qiang, founder and CEO of Miqi said that the funding would be used to strengthen the company’s branding, customer service and beef up the team.

The cosmetic vertical just completed RMB tens of millions in angel round in April of this year.

Jumei.com, one of the closest competitor to Miqi has raised US$ tens of millions from Sequoia in this March.

China is the third largest cosmetic market in the world with sales of over RMB100b ($15b) in last year.

It seems strange to be discussing the impact of a platform its creators are yet to even acknowledge, but the prospect of Facebook's Project Spartan – now expected to be announced in its own event after F8 on September 22 – is too big to ignore.

If chatter is to be believed, Spartan's browser-based marketplace will offer a bypass to the traditional platform-centric app store – albeit potentially with Apple's backing – with its HTML5 foundation allowing it to target almost any browser on any OS.

The question that arises, therefore, is just where this leaves Flash – the traditional first port of call for in-browser entertainment.

Will Luton: I think Project Spartan could be very important. It's a given that at some point in the future the web will become the de facto platform for all devices and HTML 5 looks likely to have a big part to play in it.

The main issues, beyond the technical ones, is delivery and discovery and Facebook is perfectly placed to solve those problems. It has a monetisation platform, ad services and a ton of game playing users.

During the event planning process, organizers often need to share updates with the planning committee. A “closed” or “secret” Facebook Group can be more collaborative and interactive than countless emails going back and forth.

Remco Timmermans, who attended the STS-135 tweetup found the Facebook group to be a helpful resource. He appreciated the direct interaction with participants and the helpful resources housed within the group, such as lists of hotels. The private group provided a forum for attendees to reminisce and relive the excitement by sharing post-event photos and videos.

Vendor selection is critical to the success of any event, so as you’re researching caterers, photographers or entertainment, take a peak at their Facebook pages to read feedback from previous customers. If you notice negative feedback from unsatisfied customers, think twice before hiring that company for your event.

Friends and contacts can view event details on Facebook and then register by clicking on the event link, which takes them back to the original Eventbrite page.

According to Ramstack, the Central Ohio Capital Area Humane Society has generated additional ticket sales for its upcoming fundrasier by offering a Facebook-only discount.
