Didi-Kuaidi Launch Carpooling App To Challenge People’s Uber

Just a few days after receiving US$142 million in funding from Weibo, China’s dominant taxi app company coalition Didi-Kuaidi is making further headlines with the launch of a carpooling service ‘Didi Shun Feng Che’. The feature will be added to Didi Dache’s app, aiming to curb traffic gridlock in China’s cities.
By leveraging Didi-Kuaidi’s big data and advanced matching techniques, the service will calculate routes and match car owners and passengers for carpooling. Car owners can set up default routes, while passengers provide the locations of departure and arrival and the service will automatically find matches.

Didi Dacheのアプリへ加えられるこの機能は、中国の都市における交通渋滞を抑制することを目的としている。
Didi-Kuaidiの膨大なデータと高度なマッチング技術を活用することにより、ルートを割り出して車の持ち主と相乗りを希望する乗客とを照合するというサービスだ。車の持ち主はルートを初期設定することができ、
乗客は出発と到着の位置を提供することで、自動的に一致する条件を割り出すというサービスだ。

Echelon TOP100: MyRealTrip and Flitto win at Korea Qualifier

Platform connecting travellers with local guides, MyRealTrip, bagged the Judges’ Choice award, while Flitto walked away with People’s Choice

Jess Erickson, Director of Community at 500 Startups wrote in a blog post that there are unique opportunities in the world that Korea will be able to see before many other markets, and that Korean entrepreneurs will have the first crack at solving what will likely become global opportunities.

旅行者にローカルガイドを提供するプラットフォームMyRealTripが審査員賞を、Flittoはユーザー賞を勝ち取る。

500のスタートアップ会社のディレクターを務めるJess Erickson氏は、韓国は他の多くのマーケットより世界中の珍しいチャンスを目の当たりにすることになる、そして
韓国の企業家たちはこの先グローバルなチャンス第一人者になると予想される、と自身のブログに投稿している。

The startup ecosystem in Korea is burgeoning and Seoul is poised to become the hub of tech startup activity in Asia in the next three to five years. The government is promoting entrepreneurship and no country in the world has more backing per capita from the government than Korea. According to a Wall Street Journal report, in the next two years, the government will put US$3.7 billion into startups in the form of grants and other initiatives.

韓国ではスタートアップのエコシステムが急増しており、ソウルが今後3～5年以内にアジアにおけるテクスタートアップ活動の拠点となるよう準備が進められている。政府は
企業家精神を推進しており、企業当たりの支援が韓国の政府ほどに及ぶ政府は他にない。Wall Street Journal によると、2年以内に韓国政府は
37億USドルを、補助金やその他構想費としてスタートアップに投資する予定だという。

To tap this emerging market, e27 held its Echelon Top 100 Qualifier in Seoul, to identify the exciting technology startups from Korea. This initiative will give an opportunity to Korean startups to be one of the Top 100 startups exhibiting at Echelon Asia Summit on June 23 – 24, 2015 in Singapore.

この浮上するマーケットをタップするかのごとく、韓国の活気に満ちあふれるテクノロジースタートアップを発掘するため、e27はEchelonトップQualifierをソウルで開催した。この先導により、韓国のスタートアップは
2015年6月23日、24日にシンガポールで開催のEchelonアジアサミットにおいて展示を行う、トップ100のスタートアップに選ばれる機会を得るだろう。

MyRealTrip, a platform connecting travellers with local guides or destination experts, walked away with the Judges’ Choice award and Flitto, a crowd-sourced translation platform providing accurate and low cost translations for voice, text and image through mobile phones took home the People’s Choice Award at the Qualifier.
There were four startups pitching in total including Pi, a smart IoT product that checks freshness and nutrition of food by sensors and delivers the information to a user’s mobile app in real-time, and Swizzle which helps users take clips from online videos and put them together into a fun, interactive system.

ユーザがネット上の動画をクリップし編集するのを支援する、楽しく相互作用のあるシステムSwizzle、などを含む計４つのスタートアップが参加した。

“Every company that went to the Korea finals is well-known and doing business very well. And we only have a plan for launching global service, but other teams already had the product. Definitely it was very hard situation for me and the team, so I was very excited when we got the ticket for the event,” said Donggun Le, CEO and Founder at MyRealTrip.
The judges included Siwan Kim, Senior Investment Manager, Banks Foundation for Young Entrepreneurs; Shina Chung, Partner, K Cube Ventures; and Jung Hee Ryu, Partner and CEO at FuturePlay Inc.

「韓国で最終審査へと進んだ会社は全て有名で、ビジネスも非常にうまくいっています。我が社にはグローバルなサービスを始めるという計画しかありませんが、他のチームには既に製品がありました。

審査員にはBanks Foundation for Young Entrepreneursのシニア投資マネージャーSiwam Kim氏、K Cube VenturesのパートナーShina Chung氏、FuturePlay Inc.のパートナー兼CEOのJung Hee Ryu氏。

Monk’s Hill Ventures on departure of team: nothing unusual here

Singapore-based venture capital firm Monk’s Hill Ventures saw a number of key departures recently, specifically partner Stefan Jung and associate Christian Sutardi, reported Singaporean tech blog e27. The news came out just a day before their scheduled May Day party in Jakarta. While the reasons for the departure were not stated in the article, founding partner Kuo-Yi Lim tells Tech in Asia that it wasn’t because of disagreements or an internal spat.

シンガポールを拠点としたベンチャー企業Monk's Hill Venturesから、最近仲間の旅立ちが相次いでいるが、その中でも最も注目を集めているのは共同設立者のStefan Jung氏とその同僚Christian Sutardi氏だ、とシンガポールの技術ブログe27が報告している。ニュースが発表されたのは、ジャカルタで予定されていた労働者の日のパーティのたった一日前であった。仲間の旅立ちについての理由はこの記事では述べられていないが、共同設立者Kuo-Yi Lim氏は、意見の相違や内部のいさかいが原因ではないことをTech in Asiaに話している。

“It’s always been our philosophy that associate and junior folks look to start their own companies down the road […] they work with us on a two or three year cycle, and then we encourage them to start or join a startup as part of their journey,” says Lim. Both have been with the firm for a year plus.

Sutardi left to start an online customized furniture store called Fabelio. As for Jung, Lim will only say that he’s working on “a few ideas.” Lim further clarifies that Jung was a full-time partner and a rung below founding managing directors Lim and Peng Tsin Ong in terms of decision-making power.

Sutardi tells Tech in Asia that the firm understands that he would “leave sooner or later”, either to join a portfolio company or his own startup. He joined Monk’s Hill for three reasons: to learn from the partners, understand the venture capital business, and better understand the Southeast Asian scene.

Moving forward, Monk’s Hill is seeking to bolster its ranks. It brought on a director of community in Indonesia and an investment analyst, and will likely bring on two more team members.
