Veritrans launches payment API to boost Indonesia’s e-commerce space
The e-commerce market in Indonesia is looking at better payment gateways with Veritrans. Will it cause a spurt in credit card usage online?
The co-founder of Lazada Indonesia wasn’t kidding when she said that the e-commerce scene in Indonesia is onto a boom. However, among the countless challenges founders have to face when starting up in Indonesia, the largest country in Southeast Asia, there is one which stands out for most. Monetizing is no easy task, and to monetize online, you need a good payments gateway.

Veritrans, an online payments provider, announced last week that it has launched a payment API which enables real-time credit card transactions within the merchant site. Also known as VT-Direct, its main aim is to provide convenience and ensure safety, which might still be lacking in the scene.
According to DailySocial, this new feature leverages on JavaScript to sends all relevant data from the credit card to Veritrans directly without the need to contact the merchant’s server. Users can then pay through a form and complete the transaction hassle-free.

DailySocialによると、クレジットカードに関わる全てのデータは、JavaScriptを利用した新機能によってVeritransに直接送信される。こうすることで、売り手のサーバーに接続する必要がなくなるのだ。ユーザーはフォームを通じて支払いをし、簡単に取引が済ませられる。
Furthermore, Veritrans’ new API will allow developers to develop applications for the platform. This will allow more features and services to improve the current experience. Launched in 2012, VT-Direct has collaborated with merchant sites like Traveloka, Biznet and Loket.
Last year, Veritrans also worked with DailySocial to compile an Indonesian e-commerce market-focused research study. It noted that bank transfer, which referred to ATM payments, cashier payments or the transfer of funds electronically to another bank account, was “the most widely used method of payment for e-commerce”. We wonder if they will be working on another research study this year, and if much has changed in terms of consumer behavior towards spending online.
