Do not use Acetone (or nail polish remover) as they will damage the vinyl integrity esp overtime. You might also run into paint not taking to the vinyl for future painting attempts. That’s why I recommend Windsor & Newton. It’s gentle and extremely effective and the tried and true way to strip a kit. You can use this with brushes, with q-tips for creases and nooks, and paper towel too.
Additionally, after stripping, you’ll want to prep your kit just as you would as you begin to paint. This means give it a bath in warm water and dawn soap, rinse and leave to dry. This will ensure that any residue will be off and your canvas will be prepped to take paint again. Happy second painting.

Take your time. Rooting lashes is sometimes a painstaking process but the results are very realistic eyelashes that look more realistic and not doll like as false lashes tend to do.

Sealing lashes is not required using this method, if eyes are sealed well in the socket. However if you wish to glue for extra assurance, you can use a Qtip with mod podge or eyelash glue (Macpherson Crafts stocks this as well and it includes an applicator) soak the hairs with the glue, then use the brush end to tap them up against the inner socket. Wait until the glue is COMPLETELY DRY then insert eyes through the back. Eyelashes will not move once glue has hardened completely.

I reiterate a lot of the same things to keep in mind: painting hair is a journey, start with a medium you’re comfortable with (pencils and zig pens give you more control) and graduate to comb brushes when you’re ready. Make sure your strokes have movement, and create those v’s and y’s and reverse v’s and y’s as you work. And of course – PRACTICE! And trust in the process. I still get nervous painting hair, and doubt the process until it all starts to come together. Have faith. Keep working at it. And don’t stop unless you’re happy with what you’ve created.

It may take 3-8 layers of painting to get the look you want. And don’t strive for perfection! We all start somewhere.
The brushes I referenced to mimic the fluffy strokes of a comb brush are HERE:
— Purple lines I’d do with the large, and green would be the medium blender. If you’re new to painting hair, it will offer you more control than a comb.

Then use a needle point or fine liner for detailing strokes like before.
The needlepoint brush is THIS ONE.
Mimics the 20/0 fine liner or script liner I recommend in the course, but has slightly longer strokes and keeps a straighter line (IMO). Easier to transition to after working with pencils/zig pen as well.

Please note: You can root with eyes in or out. It is recommended, as a beginner, to root with the eyes removed as you’ll break less needles and can hone the proper angle.

In this module you’ll be working on everything you need to paint the inside of an open mouth, including gums, tastebuds, creating depth, and veins on the underside of the tongue. You’ll also see examples of three other types of open mouths.

Please note: These steps should be interspersed with your existing modules. For the purpose of the video, the stages were put together to show the full transformation, but you should integrate any of these steps and bakes into your existing order to save on baking time.

Please note: When sizing your full rounds, if you’re working with a larger iris, you’ll want to go 2mm down. So if the sculpt calls for 20mm eyes, use 18mm full rounds. If you’re working with a smaller pupil (like these) use the recommended size. You can also work with half rounds (at the recommended size) and position with more E6000. I also prefer working with full rounds as they provide a bit more flexibility for positioning. Also, buy quality German glass eyes over acrylic or cheaper glass eyes on the market. They’re pricier, but they’re far more realistic and you’ll probably end up buying them anyway and tossing the cheapies after seeing them in person – I speak from experience!

**Pro Tip! The eyes are the window for the soul – and this is especially in a reborn doll! Setting your eyes can give tremendous life and soul to your baby! Set to the side, baby can appear curious, or slightly sneaky! You can also set eyes a little cross-eyed like real newborn babies sometimes have! When photographing in natural light, always try to capture the sun’s reflection in the pupil. This gives the pictures of your baby a lively, realistic look and your baby will sell better than flat eyes! Glass eyes will also catch the light, over acrylics. Open eyed babies are harder to photograph, but many collectors prefer awake babies over sleepers (or vice versa).

This module takes you through how to insert glass eyes and is only required if you’re working with an open eyed sculpt. This is my preferred method to insert glass eyes but you can feel free to put eyes in through the back if you would prefer. I recommend full round German glass eyes. It’s important to always selecting the highest quality glass eyes as you want the effect to look the most realistic. Acrylic eyes aren’t worth it, they almost always make your baby look “doll like”.

To insert your eyes, you’ll also want your vinyl to be warm to the touch (pop the head in your convection oven for 4-8 mins). If the vinyl is particularly hard you’ll want to bake for the full 8 mins. Make sure to cut the flap inside the eye socket with your vinyl cutting knife before inserting. And position based on your preference. If your vinyl is warm, and you are gentle inserting the eyes, you will not damage the vinyl by inserting this way. If you’re concerned, you can also always insert from within the head, but it is significantly harder to do with full rounds.

**Pro Tip! Milia is best applied directly on dewy skin finish (before baking). You can also apply some of the softer milia shades (esp on the corners of the nostrils) before adding dewy, and any larger textured milia can be applied on top of a baked dewy finish. You can mix your flesh tone with dewy + thickener (if you have it) to apply raised milk bumps.

About This Module
In this module, Shaylen takes you through how to create all the realistic finishing touches to your reborn sculpt. Most of these steps are optional based on your comfort level and experience. Shaylen shows you how to create thin skin, again, please reference the PDF included below. As well as how to create realistic capillaries on your baby’s cheeks, eyelids, and forehead. As well as how to create realistic milia (newborn milk pimples), and how to tip your doll’s nails. Tipping the nails is the only step in this module that is not optional. Included as well is how to create a dewy skin finish on the face and nose.

Mr. Noguchi suggested that, at the executive entrance, cars should not be parked adjacent to the entrance doors. It was also suggested that a stone platform, on line with entrance doors, be added to form an entry walkway. The existing concrete wall should be concealed by planting either from the area above or by planting directly in front of the wall. It appears that it may be possible to re-align the driveway to accomplish the above without destroying the existing large trees.

It appears that the fountains and waterfall have been turned off as an energy conservation measure; it was suggested that perhaps during the lunch hour when the escalators are being used and people are moving through the building and past the Courts, that the pumps for the fountains and water fall be turned on.

Mr. Noguchi suggested that the sculpture presently in Court I be relocated to the grass area at the entrance to the building.
The sculpture should be raised on a 'truncated" platform faced. with stone.

It was also suggested that the circular stone garden under the entrance stairs be filled in. The large stones in the stone garden could possibly be relocated into Court 2.

Please note: It’s really important to do as many mottling layers as possible. It might seem tedious, but this stage is critical to creating truly three-dimensional skin tones. Real babies’ skin has many tones. This module adds life to your baby. And remember, Shaylen is only showing you what method works best for the sculpt shown. For the purpose of this course, only two layers were done on “Tavi” Winters. Yours may vary depending on preference.
