Reassuring goals
One company prepared job descriptions but didn't clearly define what was expected in terms of results. About two years later, it instituted a program with clear standards of performance, stating what was expected to be accomplished at the end of the year. That year of having a clear understanding of performance goals was distinctly different from the previous years. Employees excelled at tasks and surpassed them in several areas. There was less stress or anxiety for them. They knew what was expected and what kind of progress they were making. When their annual reviews rolled around, they were excited, knowing that they had succeeded in doing their jobs.
