Gates is one of a few founding CEOs from the technical side of the PC industry who survived and thrived on the business side. He is a bona fide computer nerd.

William Henry Gates III was born in Seattle, Washington, on October 28, 1955. His parents nicknamed him 'Trey' from the III in his name and members of the family never called him anything else. “A lot of companies acquire to get into Asia,” he said. “There are a couple problems though. There’s no guarantee the culture of the company will match yours. Also, if they came in as a group, they can leave as a group.”

The leadership they chose wasn’t stable enough. “Companies might go through four different GMs in four years,” he said, making strategy unpredictable.

In response, PopCap and Gwertzman set up a framework to run the local office and he moved over to Shanghai in 2008 to open up the studio. They agreed that the Asia unit would have total autonomy and the only decision where upper management would be involved was the annual budget. The PopCap Asia staff would be given relatively free reign to modify the company’s best-loved brands for the local markets.

Mobile Net Users Will Surpass PC Users in China By 2013

The landscape of China’s internet is changing fast; perhaps faster than many internet companies are ready for. According to this DCCI report, China’s mobile internet users will surpass the number of PC users as soon as 2013. Note that China already has far more mobile phone users than it does PC users. Even when mobile internet users surpass their PC counterparts in 2013, given the vast number of mobile phone users in the country, China’s mobile internet market still has plenty of room to grow.
