Ching does not see their model being replicated by incumbents. He says:

They’ve spent tons of money on acquiring, retrofitting, and maintaining warehouses. They don’t have the propensity to branch out into delivery.

In any case, the founders doesn’t see the company as an adversary. Ching explains that occupancy rates for self-storage companies are around 75 percent. This positions Vault Dragon as a potential marketing channel and partner for self-storage companies. Their goal is to grow the market as a whole.

The 5 Southeast Asian startup winners at DEMO ASEAN

This past weekend has been huge for Vietnam’s startup scene with the running of DEMO ASEAN. The event, which has been organized for over 20 years across the world and is at the heart of the Silicon Valley, has finally come to Southeast Asia. All the cool folks from Hanoi came down to Ho Chi Minh city, and entrepreneurs from across Southeast Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar came to pitch, network and participate.

先週末はDEMO ASEANが行われ、ベトナムのスタートアップ界にとっては大きな週末だった。
世界中で20年間続いており、Silicon Valleyの中心である当イベントが、ついに東南アジアにやって来たのだ。
Hanoiからたくさんのcoolな人々がHo Chi Minh cityを訪れ、Singapore、Malaysia、Thailand、Laos,、Cambodia、Myanmarなどの東南アジア中から実業家たちもpitch、networkするために集まった。

The event gave out five awards for the top five startups that pitched, of a total of over 35 startups. Each of the winning teams got free tickets to the USA. Here’s the top five:

1. SmartBike (Vietnam): The big winner of DEMO is a handy new device. This startup designs two small devices that can be placed inside of a motorbike to prevent theft and track the location of the motorbike. One device is cheaper, and costs about $25. It has weaker specs than the more costly one, but the other one is still quite cheap at $75 and brings more tracking capabilities and hardware features. These guys already have a competitor in the space by the name of SetechViet.

イベントでは5つのアワードが、ｐｉｔｃｈした35を超えるｓｔａｒｔｕｐの中から、5つの最良なｓｔａｒｔｕｐに送られた。受賞チームはそれぞれthe USAへの無料航空券を獲得した。これらがそのトップ5だ。

1. SmartBike (Vietnam): DEMOでの大きな勝者は手軽な新しい機器だ。このｓｔａｒｔｕｐはバイクの中に埋め込み、窃盗防止に役立ち、バイクの場所を特定することができる2つの小さな機器を手掛けている。一方は25米ドルと非常に安く高い値段のものより低い仕様となっている。、もう一方も75米ドルととても安く、より性能のいい追跡システムとハードウェアを備えている。彼らはすでにSetechVietと呼ばれる名前で宇宙産業でも競合会社を持つ。

2. 1Pay.vn (Vietnam): This startup is focused mainly on mobile payment. Arguably, it’s one of the leading mobile payment platforms in Vietnam. Quang, the founder, said on stage that it is on track to hit $50 million in transactions by the end of the year. I wrote about this startup last month.

3. Builk (Thailand): The former winner of Echelon in 2012 is a construction platform company out of Bangkok. At DEMO ASEAN, the company released its new mobile app. We grabbed an interview with them in June.

2. 1Pay.vn (Vietnam):このｓｔａｒｔｕｐはmobile paymentに力を入れている。間違いなくVietnamで1番のmobile paymentプラットフォームとなっている。創業者であるQuangはステージ上で、5000万米ドルの取引が年末までに行われると語った。このｓｔａｒｔｕｐに関しては先月も触れた。

3. Builk (Thailand): 2012年に優勝し、Echelonの前年度チャンピオンである同企業は、Bangkokのconstruction platform会社である。DEMO ASEANにて、同社は新しい携帯アプリを発表した。我々は6月に彼らにインタビューを行った。

4. Digital Tour Guide (Myanmar): A young, small startup working on combining mapping and data with tourism. Since it’s one of the few startups coming out of Myanmar, it’s an interesting case study into what people in Myanmar are currently into – tourism. In this case, the team is very focused on getting more comprehensive information about Myanmar to tourists. VisitMM is another startup that is also doing travel in Myanmar, but in online booking.

5. Asva The Monkey (Cambodia): One of Cambodia’s premier mobile gaming teams. I already wrote about these guys and many in the audience would have been surprised if this team didn’t get an award. The design is excellent and the gameplay very fun.

4. Digital Tour Guide (Myanmar):mapping and dataを観光業に生かそうとしている若く、小さなｓｔａｒｔｕｐだ。Myanmarで数少ないstartupのひとつであるため、どんな人々がMyanmarでは観光に興味があるのかを知るための興味深いケーススタディだ。チームは観光につながるMyanmarのより包括的な情報の収集に力を注いでいる。VisitMMもMyanmarで観光業を行っているがオンライン予約に関してだ。

5. Asva The Monkey (Cambodia): Cambodiaの大手モバイルゲームチームのひとつである。彼らに関しては以前触れており、賞を獲得しなかった場合多くの観客が驚いたことだろう。デザインが素晴らしく、ゲームもとても面白い。

BONUS: 3 student winners

In addition to the more than 35 startups that pitched to DEMO’s judges, 12 Vietnamese student teams pitched. These undergraduate teams had two minutes to make their case, instead of the standard five-minute stage time. Each winning team got a cash prize. Here are the three student winners:

1. MultiGlove (awarded $5,000) – A hardware device that basically allows you to control objects by moving your hand around in space.

2. Street Foods Guide (awarded $2,500) – An app for identifying street food in the cities of Vietnam.

3. TixZone (awarded $2,000) – A platform for selling tickets online.

BONUS: 3 student winners

DEMOの審査員にｐｉｔｃｈした35のｓｔａｒｔｕｐに加え、12のベトナムの学生チームがｐｉｔｃｈした。これらの大学生チームには通常の5分間の持ち時間の代わりに、2分間の持ち時間が与えられた。勝者チームはそれぞれ賞金を獲得した。以下が3つの学生入賞チームだ。

INTRODUCTION

YTG has had a busy summer, and there's a busier autumn coming up!

The Pembroke Players are back from Cambridge University with another show at the beginning of October, and the ensemble members are working on a kid's version of BEOWULF for the end of October. 43 kids, 7 dancers, and 2 adult actors. Wow! Info on how to get tickets will be announced in an upcoming newsletter.

Work also begins on two short shows by the Ensemble, to be performed with the Japan premiere of the 2010 touring version of my solo show "39" in April.

Classes also resume in just over a week! My Acting: Scene Study class starts 9月13日! The rest of the fall & winter semester will be announced soon.

YTGは今年も盛況ですが、より忙しい秋のシーズンが近づいています。

ペンブルック・プレイヤーズが10月初めのショーのため、ケンブリッジ大学から帰って来ました。合唱団のメンバーは「BEOWULF」の子供版を10月末に向け練習しています。43人の子供、７人の踊り子、２人の大人の役者。なんと、次回のニュースレターにチケットの入手方法が掲載されます。

合唱団はさらに２つの短い講演を、日本で４月に行われた私の単独公演である「３９」の初演のバージョンで行う予定なっております。

なお、１週間ほどでクラスは再開されます。私のScene Studyクラスは9月13日に始まります。残りの秋季と冬季の予定も近々発表されます。

At an ACC level, the minimum standard of skill that must be demonstrated to receive a passing score for creating awareness is that the coach focuses on inquiry and observations that relate to the client’s stated agenda with the greater focus on inquiry rather than offering the coach’s opinions. The coach assists the client to explore that agenda more deeply and without significant attachment by the coach to a particular outcome or direction. The coach uses coaching tools in a manner that encourages rather than limits exploration.

ACCのレベルにて、自覚構築の合格点を獲得するために必要な最低限の能力の基準は、依頼者の希望するコーチの意見よりも質問により重点を置いたスケジュールに合うよう、指導者が質問と観察に重きを置くことだ。指導者は依頼者が予定をより深く実践していくために、直接重大なアドバイスを与える事なく、依頼者の希望する結果や目標へ誘導していく。指導者は依頼者の探究を制限するよりも、上達を促進する形で、コーチングツール(指導道具)を使用する。

4) The coach’s ability to illuminate the client’s fixed ways of thinking that might inhibit growth or accomplishment of the client’s goals without treating the coach’s observation as truth, but only as the coach’s thoughts; 5) The coach’s ability to use the client’s language as a tool of creating awareness; 6) The coach’s ability to integrate beginning, middle and end of the session together if appropriate to the client’s learning and creating

Key Skills Evaluated: 1) The coach’s ability to partner fully with the client in exploration of new and broader perspectives, learning, creating, and actions; 2) The coach’s ability to share perspectives without attachment and invitation to the client to share their own thinking, perspectives, and intuition; 3) The coach’s invitation to and acceptance of the client’s intuition, thinking, and language as critical tools in the coaching process;

i. 顧客に、何が述べられていて、何が行われているかを見破った際、ささいな課題と重要な課題、場面による性質と繰り返される性質を区別するよう求めなさい
審査対象の主なスキル:) 1) コーチの顧客の親身なパートナーになり、新しく、より幅の広い視野・学習・創造・行動を探究していく力。2) 自分の愛着に影響されない視野を共有し、顧客に顧客の考え・視野・直観を共有させる力。3) コーチングをしていく過程で、顧客の顧客の直観、考え、そして言語（言葉づかい）を重要な助けとしてうまく受け止める能力。

Key Skills Evaluated: 1) The ease, directness, and depth with which the coach shares perspectives, thoughts, intuition, and feedback; 2) Whether the coach appears to have any attachment to the coach’s perspective; 3) The coach’s effective use of the client’s language and learning models; 4) The breadth of the invitation the coach gives to the client to share his/her own perspectives, thoughts, intuition, and feedback

審査対象の主なスキル: 1) コーチが、自分の視点・考え・経験に基づく知識・感想を共有する際の、容易さ・率直さ・深さ。2) コーチが自分の視点に対して愛着があるかどうか。3) コーチによる、顧客の言語と学習方法の効果的な活用。4) コーチが、自分の視点・考え・経験に基づく知識・感想を共有するために顧客に与える招きの幅。

A coach will not receive a passing score for powerful questioning on the ACC exam if the coach does not focus on an inquiring versus telling methodology, if the majority of questions contain already pre-determined answers by the coach, or if the questions attend to an agenda or issues not set by the client, but set by the coach.

もしコーチが方法論の説明に焦点を置き質問を怠ったら、もし大半の質問の答えはコーチによってあらかじめ決められていたものであったら、または質問が顧客によって定められた議題や問題ではなくコーチによって定められたものであった場合、彼はACC試験で強力な質問のための合格点をもらえないだろう。

At an ACC level, the minimum standard of skill that must be demonstrated to receive a passing score for powerful questioning is that the coach uses inquiry versus telling methodology. This includes exploring what issues exist for the client versus telling the client what the issues are or suggesting solutions. Questions must attend to the client’s agenda and seek information about that agenda and are oriented to solving issues set by the client.

ACCのレベルで効果的な質問で合格点を取るために必要な最低限のスキルの基準は、方法論に対して質問を使用することです。これは顧客にとってどんな問題が存在するかを調査するのに対し、顧客に問題は何であるかを説明し解決策を提案する事を含みます。

Key Skills Evaluated: The coach’s depth of questioning that evokes the core issues that are either contained in or underlie the client’s agenda; 2) The coach’s ability to explore with and to evoke exploration by the client of the emotional and substantive content of the words; 3) The coach’s ability to explore with and evoke exploration by the client of the underlying beliefs and means of thinking, creating, and learning that are occurring for the client; 4) The depth at which the coach’s questions provide a thinking space for and elicit new perspectives from the client

審査対象の主なスキル: コーチの、顧客の議題に含まれる、または根底に存在する問題の核心をとらえるような質問の深さ。2) 共に探究する、また顧客に、感情的で実質的な言葉への探究心を抱かせる力。3) 共に探究する、また顧客に、根底にある信念、考える・生み出す・学ぶ手段への探究心を抱かせる力。4) コーチの質問が顧客に与える考える余地、またコーチの質問が顧客から引き出す新しい視点、それらの深さ。

The ICF notes that trust and intimacy and presence are quite related competencies. Therefore, a coach will not receive a passing score for coaching presence on the ACC exam if the coach demonstrates significant interest in the coach’s view of the situation rather than exploring the client’s view of the situation, does not seek information from the client about the client’s thinking around the situation or is unresponsive to that information, does not seek information about the client’s goals regarding the situation, or is unresponsive to that information, or the attention seems to be on the coach’s own performance or demonstration of knowledge about the topic.
