・ Keep contact forms simple. While it may help to get a full profile of your visitor by asking pre-qualifying questions, it can be very intimidating for that user. Ask for as little information as possible and require only that person’s name and email address. If you seek other information, such as phone number and address, make it optional.

・Create one-column form fields for quick contact. It helps to put form labels directly above form fields. Usability studies show that users who filled out these types of forms saved time by only having to move their eyes vertically, not laterally.

YourGolf Online: An App That’s Changing How the World Plays Golf

YourGolf Online is a GPS-enabled golf logging mobile app that allows you to record at which courses you have played, how you made approach shots, and how what scores you have earned. Golf players will no longer have to note their scores on a piece of paper, as the app is now available on Android devices and the iPhone, and is being used in 188 countries all around the world.

Three years ago, the app was developed by Asai, Inc., a system development company based in Tokyo and China’s Fuzhou city. Mr. Kenji Saikami who used to be a project manager of the app spun it out, and he launched a new company called YourGolf Online.

YourGolf Onlineは、プレイしたコース、どのようなアプローチショットをしたか、どんなスコアであったかを記録できるGPS付きのゴルフログモバイルアプリである。ゴルフプレイヤーは、もはやスコアを紙に記す必要はない。AndroidデバイスとiPhoneで利用できるアプリは、世界の１８８ヵ国で利用されている。

“60 percent of our users has come from outside Japan, and more than 200,000 users are active on a monthly basis,” the company’s CEO Saikami explains. As reasons for their success, he pointed to two advantages: there’s no other competing service and there is little language barrier because it is a sport app. For speeding it up globally, their app is available in English and compatible with both metric and empirical systems (meters versus yards).

It has a web-based user dashboard for an access with PC, allowing users to see how they have made approaches in past games with a Google Earth animation they call “Virtual Replay.” The company wants to make this a sort of golf-playing version of Usream Live and, as it’s recorded, and they expect the service as to show users how professional golfers are playing or have played with a bird’s-eye or satellite view.

In order to accelerate their user traction, CEO Saikami (right in the picture above) and his buddy Michiyasu Yabuki (left) are now visitng in Singapore to meet with Asian Tour, the official regional sanctioning body for professional golf in Asia. We’ve heard they will be staying in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur from December 4th (Sunday) to the 9th (Friday) to seek potential partnerships with local sport-related businesses in the region. DeNA and Daum Target 10 Million Game Subscribers by End of 2012

Earlier in the month we told you about DeNA’s (TYO:2432) partnership with Korean web portal Daum (KDQ:035720) to promote its Mobage platform in South Korea. Today we received word that the partnership was formally signed, and that it will be branded as ‘Daum Mobage.’

The two companies held a press conference in Seoul today to discuss the partnership, and the slides that were presented can be found below. Included are a few interesting factoids that shed some light on the Daum Mobage plan.

The most notable is that Daum Mobage is aspiring to reach 10 million smartphone user subscriptions by the end of 2012. Daum already has over 38 million registered users, and hopes that the community platform will facilitate easy promotion via organic word of mouth, and easy sign-in with Daum credentials.

The service is scheduled to launch early next year, with Korean versions of popular titles like We Rule and Tap Fish coming to the Android market. Choi Sae-hoon, the CEO of Daum communications was quoted as saying:

The manager of the department of Internet business development at Infocom Co., Mr.Kazumi Hirooka, explains that they want to partner with tech blogs and news media all across the world, and elevate it into a platform that can spread Japan-made, high-quality Android apps globally by being referenced by many news readers and bloggers.

Their business model is completely ad-based for now, but Mr. Hirooka wants to explore more potential ways to monetize his business.

Want Made-in-Japan Android Apps? Infocom Has a Solution

Infocom Corporation, a Tokyo-based system integration company whose subsidiary is the world’s famous blog platform developer Six Apart, launched Japan’s first Android app showcase portal in English today called Tabroid. Some readers in Japan may be aware that its Japanese version launched one month ago.

The portal is maintained by Mediagene Inc who’s known for running Japanese editions of popular tech-savvy blogs such as Gizmodo and Lifehacker. The company has a bunch of app reviewers and bloggers across the country, and their blog posts will be published in the both languages from now on.

日本製のAndroidアプリを望むか？Infocomはソリューションがある。

その子会社が世界で有名なブログプラットフォームデベロッパーSix Apartである、東京を拠点とするシステム統合会社のInfocom Corporationは、Tabroidと呼ばれる日本で最初の英語版Androidショーケースポータルを今日ローンチした。日本の読者の中には、日本語バージョンは１か月前にローンチしたと認識している人がいるかもしれない。

Tudou Partners with TV Tokyo to Bring More Japanese Anime to China

We were surprised to hear a few weeks back that Chinese video site Tudou (NASDAQ:TUDO) was reporting a net profit of 52 million RMB ($8.2 million). It’s puzzling, but we’re glad to hear they’re doing well. When I lived in China a few years back, both Tudou and Youku were good sources of online entertainment behind the Great Firewall, though many foreign programs have since disappeared since those sites have had to clean up their IP act leading up to going public.

Japanese anime is among the most popular genres on Chinese video sites, and today Tudou made a significant step in securing ‘simulcast’ rights for over 60 anime series in China starting in December, including popular titles such as Naruto, Bleach, and Gintama. That’s not to say that there’s not already lots of anime on Tudou, as you can already find lots of episodes archived on there. But this new agreement means that one hour after those titles air in Japan, Tudou will stream them with Chinese subtitles added. In Tudou’s announcement, its COO Evelyn Wang explained:

日本のアニメは中国の動画サイトで最も人気のジャンルであり、今日Tudouは、ナルト、ブリーチ、銀魂のような人気番組を含む60以上のアニメシリーズを１２月から中国で「サイマル放送」する権利を保証する重要なステップを踏んだ。すでに多くのエピソードのアーカイブを見つけられるように、Tudouに多くのアニメがないというわけではない。この新しい契約は、日本放送後１時間で、Tudouは中国語の字幕付きでストリーミングできるということを意味する。Tudouの発表において、COOのEvely Wanは説明した：

"We expect that our partnership with leading Japanese animation producers and distributors will provide Tudou with a sustainable source of high-quality animation content, strengthening Tudou’s leading position in the animation market in China."

Readers may recall that in addition to Japanese animation, Tudou recently landed a big animated movie from the west as well, in Disney’s Cars 2.

Jiuxian.com Completed Series B Round from Sequoia and Oriental Fortune Capital

Jiuxian.com, the first liquor-centric online retailer of its kind in China announced completing a Series B round of funding for US$ tens of millions from Sequoia China and Oriental Fortune Capital. The funding will go towards beefing up warehousing and logistics with an aim to get listed.

Founded in September 2010, Jiuxian has raised US$ 20 million in first round in this April . The vertical offers wine, white spirit, high-grade beer, wine set and so on.

With a sales target of over US$ 78 million for this year and a target to generate north of US$ 1.5 billion in sales in the next three years, Jiuxian is planning to go public in 2014 in the States or in Hong Kong.

One of its arch rivals, Yesmywine raised US$40 miilion in a Series C financing led by Chengwei Capital this May. The Shanghai-based company has raised over US$53 million since its launch in late 2008, US$3 million for the Series A by DCM and US$10 million for Series B led by Mandra Capital.

Just like Jiuxian.com, YesMyWine also used the funding to expand warehousing and logistics services as well as to widen collections.

China displaced Japan in 2009 to become the largest Asian wine consumer. According to statistics by China Customs, the total import value of wine increased 70% last year. There’s a big and fruitful market behind the expansion.
