Xiaomi set to expand into 10 more countries this year, including India, Indonesia, and Brazil

This afternoon Xiaomi, China’s fast-growing smartphone maker, held a meetup in Beijing to announce it would enter some new markets and also reveal a new product it had been teasing for the past several weeks.

At the event, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun confirmed that the company would expand internationally in full force. Specifically, he claimed that the company will enter no less than 10 countries this year:

・Asia: Malaysia, Indonesia, India, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam
・Europe: Russia, Turkey
・Latin America: Mexico, Brazil

Earlier this month Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra listed a few of these territories as upcoming destinations for the company.

Earlier this week Xiaomi launched a new website at Mi.com, marking a symbol of its commitment to going global. “When it comes to ecommerce, a short domain name helps obtain higher user traffic because it is easy to remember,” said Xiaomi VP Li Wanqiang in a statement.

Xiaomi is aiming to sell a total of 60 million smartphones over the course of this year, more than three times the number it sold in 2013.

Chinese legislators have passed the first amendments to the country’s environmental protection law in 25 years, promising greater powers for
environmental authorities and harsher punishments for polluters.

The amendments, which the Standing Committee of National People’s
Congress passed on Thursday after two years of debate, will allow
authorities to detain company bosses for 15 days if they do not
complete environmental impact assessments or ignore warnings to stop
polluting. The new law will come into practice on 1 January.

The report, Nitrogen on the Table, examined the impacts that changes in consumer food habits would have on nitrogen emissions from livestock.

It said a 50% cut in meat and dairy intake would cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25-40% depending on what the freed-up land was used for. The amount of imported soybeans, mostly used to feed livestock, would fall by 75%.

The taskforce concluded that the amount of nitrogen lost into the wider environment – into the air and into water – was 25 times higher per unit of food protein from beef than for cereals.

I am still having problems with my order. I have contacted both parcelforce.com and royal mail and they all informed that the tracking number is wrong. I do not understand why the bank has taken the money but I have not received my purchase yet.
