MasterCard rolls out MasterPass in Australia first, says Australians are early technology adopters

MasterCard has just announced its new payment system, MasterPass, and will initially roll out the feature to Australia and Canada.

MasterPass is essentially a shortcut to online payments with a credit card. The service will be available on mobile and web pages, first in Australia and Canada, with the rest of the world to follow. The launch of the new service will see certain websites with an added option for customers to pay with MasterPass.

マスターカードは新たな決済システム、マスターパスを先日発表した。
オーストラリアとカナダで順次導入を進める予定である。

マスターパスとは、言ってしまえばクレジットカードによるオンライン決済を可能にするサービスだ。
携帯サイトとＰＣサイトでの使用が可能でオーストラリア、カナダ、と導入を開始し、その後に他の国への導入も進める。
この新しいサービスにより、サイトによってはマスターパスを使用するユーザーへのオプションが追加される様だ。

What’s interesting to note about the new announcement is that MasterCard chose Australia as the first country for rolling out the new power feature. MasterCard’s Head of Market Development and Innovation, Matt Barr, said that Australia was picked not as a test bed, but because because Australians were early technology adopters, and the country was experiencing a rapid growth in smartphone sales and e-commerce. He also assured that the new service as 100 percent secure, with no information held by the merchants but by MasterCard itself.

How fast is smartphone penetration in Australia growing? Research firm Frost & Sullivan recently released a new Mobile Device Usage Trends report which shows 68 percent of 15 to 65-year-olds now have smartphones, with penetration among the whole population at 41 percent. With a population of almost 23 million, that would mean that there are more than 9 million smartphone owners in Australia now. Frost & Sullivan also anticipates the penetration to increase to 65 percent by 2017.

MasterPass is an upgrade from its PayPass Wallet Services. With the new MasterPass, businesses can integrate it and customize the payment experience, be it through NFC transactions, QR codes, or purely online payments. According to MasterCard senior vice president Ed Olebe, more than a few retailers are looking for ways to enhance the traditional shopping experience with the sort of flexibility that digital modes of payment afford consumers.

Panel moderator Gwendolyn had published a statistic that refers to Asia as 32 percent of global e-commerce sales, but those numbers are highly skewed by China and mature e-commerce markets like South Korea, Japan, and Australia. In many ways, yes, Asia represents a juggernaut for e-commerce markets. According to Emarketer “this year, e-commerce sales will grow 18.3 percent to US$1.298 trillion worldwide as Asia-Pacific surpasses North America to become the world’s No. 1 market for B2C e-commerce sales.”

Japan Merchandising Rights Association [JAMRA] has announced the founding of “JAMRA Prize”.
It will praise an individual or a group of people which work for introducing Japanese fictional character to attract customers.
Popular fictional character in Japan and popular Japanese fictional character abroad will be the subject to examination.

The four prize winning works will be chosen from those reached the final selection stage nominated from 141 properties and 500 productions.

The chief juror Akihiro Kamei also an emeritus professor of Waseda University said “This selection was started as a commemorative project. But I look forward to continuing this event”.

　工業製品の意匠性の重要度は増加している．デザインに用いられる曲面はスタイルの良さと品質の高さの両方が要求される．これらを満たすデザインは試行錯誤を経てデザイナにより生成される．だが，これは非効率である．また，これはデザイナ各々の感覚への依存度が高い．そこで，曲面形状を幾何学的に保持し，「美しさ」を定量評価できるようになればデザイナを支援することができる．なぜなら，客観的な評価によりデザインの効率が上がるし，評価値はデザイナのコミュニケーションツールにもなるからだ．

The design of the product is getting much more significant now. The curve of the product requires stylishness and quality of the product. This sort of design was created by designers with their trial and error. But this is not the effective way to produce such design. This method is also having problem that is relying too much of each designer's taste. If we can establish the tool to evaluate "beauty" by recording the curved surface shape geometrically, it will help out designers. It will improve efficiency of producing design by giving them an objective evaluation. Evaluation value will also help communicate with each designer.

しかしこのような評価方法は存在しない．そこで本論文は，曲面形状の「美しさ」を定義し，客観的評価手法確立することでスタイルデザイン工程を支援することを目的とする．
　従来，曲面の評価には主に曲率，ハイライト線，エネルギが用いられてきた．
曲率に関しては，曲率変化単調となることが美しいとされている．

But this type of method does not exist. This study was performed to define the "beauty" of the curved shape to establish the objective assessment which helps efficient designing.
Traditionally, curved surface was evaluated by curvature factor, highlight line and energy.
In term of curvature factor, the beauty will defined by its simplicity of the curvature change.
