Augustine is also a human, he had the same worries as all of us.
There was a time when he was not a believer of Christ, and it might be helpful in his interpretations of the Bible later on.
His friend's death deeply affected him, but if it were me, my friend's death would have deeply affected me.
It made him remember that death is always close to us, something that he had not thought of before.

Augustine was a human being, and he was in his agony just as we are.
The background of his life during which he was not a Christian may have helped him construe better the principles in the Bible later in his fie.
There is a description that the passing of his friend influenced him; it does apply to me as I was influenced
by the passing of my friend.
The event made me realize how near I was to death, which I had not sensed so much before.
