軽症・中等症本態性高血圧症患者を対象に，テルミサルタン80 ㎎を１日１回８週間投与し，降圧効果および安全性についてバルサルタン80 ㎎を対照薬としてPROBE 法により比較検討した。
その結果，テルミサルタンおよびバルサルタンは軽症・中等症本態性高血圧症患者に対して良好な降圧効果および安全性を示した。ABPMによる治療期最終投与18～24 時間後の収縮期血圧下降度には，両群間で有意差を認めなかったが，拡張期血圧下降度では，テルミサルタンはバルサルタンに比し有意に優れていた。
テルミサルタンはバルサルタンに比しABPMによる 24 時間，午前，日中の収縮期血圧，拡張期血圧および夜間の拡張期血圧を有意に低下させた。
以上の成績より，テルミサルタン80 ㎎の1 日1 回投与は，血圧が上昇しやすい早朝を含む24 時間にわたり血圧下降を示し，投与18～24 時間後の拡張期血圧下降度においてはバルサルタンより有意に優れていた。

Targetting the light to medium severity essential hypertension patients, 80mg of [telmisartan/micardis] had been administered once a day for 8 weeks, comparing and inspecting the depressor effect and safeness using the PROBE method with valsartan as the [contrast medicine / comparative drug].
As a result, telmisartan and valsartan showed good depressor effect and safeness toward the light to medium severity essential hypertension patients.
With regards to the [contracting phase blood pressure depression rate]* 18 to 24 hours after the final admistration of the treatment period by ABPM, there were no significant difference between the two groups, but with regards to [expanding phase blood pressure depression rate]*, telmisartan was essentially effective in comparison to valsartan.
