Get down and close to the strata and examine what type of material make up the strata. Tap it, scrape it, touch it. Is there a crystalline structure of the material? Can you determine what size of particle makes up the material?
Use the VELOCITY that you have calculated and use the Water Velocity Chart to estimate what type of particles could be transported by the river and cause weathering of the strata.
How many times faster (?X) would the flow of the river have to be to move the larger rocks (4-5 cm) down the river?
Tell me what you think make up the river strata. Depending on what you think the strata is composed, why has the strata not been eroded away? Why does it still exist here?
Post a ‘found’ log with how fast the river was flowing and your thoughts regarding the material that makes up the strata. You can assume your answer is correct; if not, I’ll let you know.
