TIEでは最も悪いムダと呼んでいる。
運搬のムダとは、一時的な仮置きや積み替え、または必要以上の運搬距離により生ずるムダをいう。
在庫があるという安心感から、設備故障、品質問題などの根本的な対策が遅れてしまう。
仕事量が少ない時や前後工程のバランスが悪い時、また機械が自動的に加工している間、作業者が何もしないで待っている状態をいう。
