The plush critters get off easy compared to how Travers treats the talent in charge of translating her beloved authority figure into an adored movie character. Imagine Maggie Smith's imperious Dowager Countess on "Downton Abbey" crossed with Godzilla. Stomping onto the studio lot, Travers insists on changes that range from innocuous (switching the name of the mother of Mary Poppins' wee charges from Cynthia to Winifred) to insulting (she rails against the use of any "silly cartoons," a phrase that visibly pains Disney) to the impossibly outlandish ("No color red in the film—at all!").

This is why, freshly out of saviors, Stone is hardly a damsel in distress. Instead, it's her wits that get her out of her messes. Granted, she receives much of her initial instructions from Matt Kowalski (George Clooney),

Despite having been a mother, Stone is not a Madonna figure. She alludes to the idea that her deceased daughter might be in an otherworldly plane, but only minutes earlier, she admits that she doesn't pray, and asks someone to say a prayer purely out of desperation. She's otherwise too aloof to satisfy the tender, spiritual stereotype.

Mountain biking on trails is very popular in the parks of Rio. There are many trails for the addicts to this sport. Vista Chinesa, in Tijuca forest, is a great spo with hard downhill trails. There are also easier trails in Parque da Cidade, in Gávea neighborhood.

While it is possible to tour Serengeti National Park from a permanent lodge, travelers looking to get right in the thick of the action should consider staying at a mobile tented camp. These camps follow the annual wildebeest migration, moving every month or so to stay near the herds. As a result, they are both well-placed for game drives and somewhat more time-consuming to find, since they don't have a single fixed location.

The abundance of prey that the herds provide draws out the carnivorous population of the Serengeti in force. Packs of spotted hyenas are a common sight during the twilight hours, as they lope off to begin their nightly hunt.

If you love Ozu you do not need to be told that "An Autumn Afternoon" stars Chishû Ryû, who appeared in almost every film Ozu ever made. He always plays, we feel, the Ozu character, reserved, neat, quiet, and, like Ozu himself, often a heavy drinker, more meditative than demonstrative. In "An Autumn Afternoon," his Hirayama is a salaryman at an unspecified factory, who lives with his daughter Michiko (Shima Iwashita), 24, and son Kazuo (Shinichirô Mikami) a little younger. An older son, Koichi (Keiji Sada), is already married. Hirayama is tall, slender, always well-dressed. What he feels is left to us to infer;

The film takes place in Hirayama's office and home, in a few bars and restaurants, and in his son's home. A great many scenes involve steady drinking. These have echoes in Ozu's work; a reunion with an old teacher can also be seen in the similar story of "There Was a Father" (1942), also starring the neither young nor old Chishû Ryû, this one living at home with his son.

The trailers created by Dante and company were models of fast and furious. "We were selling these pictures through sometimes dubious means," Dante laughed, "like inserting an exploding helicopter into every other trailer and generally falsifying the storylines of pictures that didn't have much story. We wanted to get people's attention. Sometimes we really falsified the movie. There was a Japanese disaster movie called 'Tidal Wave.' We tried to make people think the film took place in America by not showing any Japanese people in the ad and shooting new footage with Lorne Greene at the United Nations."

Case in point: the trailer for "Demetrius and the Gladiators," which proclaims, "Through Cinemascope Your Eyes Behold…The Glory…The Grandeur…The Pleasure…The Passion…The Spectacle…And the Splendor That was Rome!"

Instead of the David Lean-on-caffeine panoramas of thousand of computer-generated zombies swarming ant-like up walls and over barricades and taking down computer-generated choppers while panicked generals watch on monitors from thousand of miles away and Forster's close-up camera wobbles and wiggles and swings all over the place to generate unearned "excitement", the drawn-out final setpiece follows three people sneaking into a building that's overrun by a few dozen sleepy and distracted flesh-snackers. And what do you know? It's pretty scary, and unintended proof that when you try to re-invent the wheel, the result doesn't carry you as far as you would have liked.

As one of France’s most famously picturesque regions, Provence is packed full of worthy destinations. I chose to make Avignon my base camp. It is a lovely, mid-sized city with plenty of restaurants, shops, history, and day-trip opportunities to make for a great lavender scented vacation escape.

When we arrived in Avignon on June 21st, to my surprise we were greeted by thick traffic and large crowds; not exactly what I expected. But there was actually a rather fortunate reason for all the hustle and bustle. It turns out that on this particular day in France, the national Fête de la Musique (Festival of Music) is held. People pour into the cities to enjoy free concerts held simultaneously throughout the streets.

After making our way down the Rue de la Rèpublique and winding through the narrow lanes past multiple performances ranging in genre from rock to what might be called French folk, the streets opened up to a tree lined city square. As our curiosity drew us closer, I recognized the distinct sound of Michael Jackson’s hit "Beat It".
