Voice search is becoming more popular then ever. This is no surprise as smartphone penetration and usage continue to grow. According to a recent research done by the Telemetrics. 50 percent of the users in the US start to use a mobile device to search. For certain type of searches such as the nearby restaurants, such figures are even higher. The famous restaurant ratings& reviews service Yelp reported that 59 percent of all their searches are on mobile in Q2 2013.

“But that’s not the only factor behind the uptick in mobile voice search,” said Zhu. He cites the demand for better user interfaces, especially from those who don’t want to rely solely on a touchscreen to interact with their phone.

“In China, users have had a hard time using Siri to get precise answers to certain questions. Siri often fails to deliver a satisfactory answer.” said Chaofei Fan, 25, now a software engineer at Chumenwenwen.

Chumenwenwen answers your questions in three steps: first it does speech recognition to convert your voice into text; the text is then passed to semantic analyzer to understand your intention; finally with your intention Chumenwenwen searches relevant domains to find the most accurate answer for you. Metaps’ new platform DirectTAP gives 100% revenue share to publishers

Japan-based firm Metaps’ new platform DirectTAP will be employing a freemium model. Instead, it will not be collecting any commission from advertisers

Metaps Inc., a Japan-based Android monetisation platform, today released a new ad network which connects advertisers and app developers with zero commission, known as DirectTAP.

Functioning as a pay-per-click advertising network, app developers will stand to earn the same amount of money advertisers pay per click. Developers wishing to promote their own apps can also utilise house advertisements, which refer to self-promotional pieces, at no cost.

The question begs: how exactly will Metaps generate revenue through DirectTAP? Well, by using a freemium model, the platform does offer premium services such as consulting and ad optimisation at an additional fee.

With more than 200 million downloads worldwide, while under closed beta, DirectTAP is officially released for public use today. At the moment, the platform only supports Android apps, but the press release noted that support will be extended to iPhone applications soon. It also mentioned that patents are now being filed in accordance.

Recently, Metaps managed to sign a deal with chat app company Kakao to monetise games under its umbrella.

Bio3D wants to print body parts and make prescription drugs cheaper and better

Mingwei Fan, co-founder of Bio3D Technologies, took the stage to pitch at this year’s Startup Arena competition. The startup is creating a bio 3D printer that Fan believes could drastically reduce costs in medical trials, leading to better drugs created at a faster clip and more cheaply.

Fan’s bio 3D printer is a Frankensteinian cross between an industrial-quality 3D printer and precision lab equipment. The company’s first commercial product, it prints cells, other bio materials, and even plastic, arranging them at the micron level — out of reach for even the most nimble hands.

It’s already happening right now — Tencent (HKG:0700) owns WeChat, a chat app that allows users to make purchases from retail brands.

Recently, they even announced a payment function for McDonald’s within the chat app itself. It’s not alone – similar apps like Viber are starting to monetize their audiences and introducing innovative new business models. Line, for example, allows users to see gourmet coupon offers from nearby places, with 32 percent of their 200 million registered users having already used such coupons.

Report: 40% of Chinese consumers have heard of wearable tech, but can’t name brands

Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) published the results of a focus group study yesterday which asked Chinese consumers about wearable devices. As smartwatches and other wearable tech begin to surface, China will undoubtedly be a battleground for customer acquisition. But is the soil here fertile enough for such a market to grow?

Qihoo Launched A Kid Tracking Bracelet

Qihoo today released 360 Child Guard, a GPS tracking bracelet. Like most GPS trackers, 360 Child Guard locates where the one wearing it anytime and can display the course on the app in your phone for any given period of time.

A special feature with it is you can call the gadget and listen to the sounds around it, telling whether your kid is in a safe environment. It also can record a 15-second clip after you send a command.
