EverConnect Raises 15 Million Yen, Wants To Aggregate All Your Social Accounts

Earlier this week, Tokyo-based startup EverConnect unveiled its web app that allows you to check out posts and tweets from multiple social network accounts on a single screen. It’s called Everconnect.Me, and so far it has fundraised a total of 15 million yen (about $193,000) from three investors, Voyage Group, NetAge, and Neptune Group.

The web service aggregates messages and posts from Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Foursquare, and plans to integrate with more social network platforms soon. It is expected to launch in beta tomorrow, and only invited users are allowed to sign up for the service. To receive an invitation, you will be requested to register on their website, press the ‘like’ button on their Facebook fan page, follow their Twitter account, or receive an invitation from existing users. The first 100k applicants can receive a complimentary premium account.

The startup’s founder/CEO Yutaka Shinohara explains:

"As our email messaging services transition to the cloud, users became more free to use messaging without thinking about the background mess. But today, we turn to using a variety of social media, and have been forced to use different networks to reach a specific contact, in accordance with whichever network he or she belongs to. [This really means] we are no longer free. We just wanted to launch an aggregation service that allows us to use multiple social network platforms more openly."

The service is targeting users outside Japan as it is provided entirely in English. The company will use the money fundraised especially for hiring new talent, and for adding new features which will help it push into the global market.

The startup was founded in September of 2010 by Mr. Shinohara, who previously worked with Tokyo-based secure messaging vendor Zenlok Corporation. They were chosen as one of Red Herring’s Top 100 Asia Winner and Global Finalist in 2011, and also won the second place at the Innovation Weekend Grand Finale, a startup competition by Tokyo- and Silicon Valley-based incubator Sunbridge Venture Habitat.

1. Fetch Twitter Search Results

GetTweets is a simple and fast Google Spreadsheet script that lets you quickly export Twitter search results into a spreadsheet. You can play with the spreadsheets in two ways.

Increase the number of results returned — up to 1,500. I managed to fetch about 1,300.
Twitter search operators can help you filter out links (search “-filter:links“) and find tweeted questions (search “?“). Check out this article on advanced social media search as well as this list for more search terms.

2. Count Facebook Likes and Shares

FacebookLikes script evaluates Facebook user interaction for any given range of URLs. It will display:

Additionally, the spreadsheet’s embedded chart lets you compare Facebook interaction for the number of pages provided.

3. Compare Facebook Pages

Like the previous spreadsheet, FacebookFans is a Google macro based on Facebook API. For any Facebook page ID, it fetches the number of fans. It also visualizes the data with a pretty pie chart. Track your as well as your competitors’ Pages using the script, and the numbers will update each time you open the spreadsheet — easy!

4. Monitor Social Media Reputation

This spreadsheet not only generates Google search results for the term you provide, but also fetches Twitter and Facebook counts for each page returned. Anyone can easily run a search for his or her brand name and see how actively it’s being discussed in social media.

5. Extract and Archive Your Followers

This spreadsheet is the hardest to set up, but also has the most complex functionality. It lets you extract your friends and followers to easily search and filter your Twitter contacts.

The script requires your own Twitter API key (which is pretty easy to get), and provides easy-to-follow set up instructions. Try running the scripts a couple of times to get them working. Go to Tools + Script Manager and run Test script.

If you have done everything correctly, a Twitter Auth will pop up. Then, you’ll be able to authenticate your own application. After, go to Twitter + Get Followers and you should see the tool importing your following list. However, if you have large following, you likely won’t be able to import it all (for me, that meant about 5,000 recent followers).

Panoplaza has already made a virtual bookshop for a book retailer in Tokyo, where it shot 20 panoramic photos in order to create the three-dimensional online store. For certain books presented on the virtual shelves, there are hotspots that users can click on to display new information about those books. The startup has also created a virtual sweets shop, and have demonstrated a handy search function that allows you to search for ‘chocolate’ things in the store.

For the Daimaru department store in Tokyo, Panoplaza’s new storefront has helped bring in over 100,000 page views in a two-month span, and the average time customers spend in shops is up by 30 percent. Sales are six times higher, and while there could be other factors besides Panoplaza’s storefront at work here, suffice it to say that a Panoplaza presentation helps stimulate business. Personally, I’m not sure how much of this is attributable to the novelty of the panoramic presentation, or whether such customer interest could be sustained if these virtual storefronts were more widespread.

But the startup says that it has online tools for shop managers which will allow them to upload photos and make tags on items that they want to sell. So in this respect, a merchant could keep things fresh so customers would have a reason to virtually come back and browse again.

Judges questioned how the photos were taken, and how much time it takes to generate a panorama store front. But Panoplaza emphasized that merchants could later upload their own photos themselves given the improving panoramic smartphone capabilities.

Panoplaza notes that the ecommerce market in Japan is worth $100 billion and is increasing every year. But because online shops are often unappealing and lacking in interactivity, it’s hard to really engage customers. From what I can see of these online shops, it definitely offers a slick interface that retailers can present to customers.
