Licensed content like TV dramas and major movies are a huge new battleground in China as video-streaming sites slowly move away from user-generated content. LeTV is up against big spenders such as Youku, Baidu’s iQiyi and PPS sites, PPTV, Tencent Video, and many others.

LeTV just received $32.5 million in August in its first round of funding since going public in 2010. The company is effectively valued at $2.52 billion.

Uber teams up with messaging app to get more Korean couples in its cars

Uber launched in South Korea this summer, and this week the fancy car booking service is trying out its first bit of social marketing in the country. Uber has teamed up with Korean startup Between – which makes a messaging app for couples – to offer the chance for couples to win a free ride.

Chan Park from the Uber Korea team tells us that the promo is being offered to over one million registered Korean users of Between. The promo appears in the ‘event box’ section of the Between apps for iOS and Android, and runs until the end of this week:

Both Between and Uber are also promoting the tie-up via social media in the country.

Chan reckons that Uber and Between are a good match in terms of the “demographic and synergies between the two companies.” This pilot promo could be rolled out in other markets later.

Uber is now active in five cities across Asia. As for Between, it has over 900,000 active users around the world.

Here at JustGiving, we’ve been monitoring the increasing power of mobile fundraising and its impact on social media since early 2012, when stats revealed huge growth in this area. There has been much excitement as we have now hit the inflection point of mobile internet users exceeding desktop users.

In this article, we share our latest insight and explore the trends and data that make social and mobile a non-negotiable part of any charity’s online fundraising strategy.

JustGiving shared their latest insight on the growth of social and mobile at the Institute of Fundraising Digital Fundraising Conference, in a session called ‘Mobile and social – why our phone is your new BFF‘.

Paul Tan, co-founder of Drive.SG, said that the company has been constantly finding new ways to improve its service, mainly with features that provide a better customer experience. “For example, a few months ago, we introduced a new chauffeur service, targeting businesses that require luxury cars, mini-buses and coaches,” he said. “Together with our newly-launched mobile app, we hope to see a strong growth in our business, and are targeting to reach some 5,000 car rental days per month by end 2014."

Another co-founder, Adrian Lee, told e27 that they are currently in talks with some companies in Malaysia, and should announce the partnership deals by end-2013.

Incubated by NUS Enterprise, Drive.SG is located within the National University of Singapore School of Computing incubator. Drive.SG also leveraged on a partnership with Silicon Straits Saigon, who worked with the team to co-develop their mobile app.

Pakistan-based Convo raises $5 million to boost global reach of its online collaboration tool

Pakistan-made Convo is an online business collaboration tool that’s already used by over 6,000 companies around the world. The startup has revealed a series A round of funding worth $5 million, with the money coming from US-based Morgenthaler Ventures.

This comes six years after its seed funding from Adobe (Update: corrected earlier mistake that this was series B funding. It’s not), when the main product and company was called Scrybe and took the form of a scheduling app for enterprises.

First, some people can decide to make purchases via their family and friends instead of doing it themselves. Second, and more importantly, Indonesians mostly make online purchases via bank transfers or cash-on-delivery (COD). Those are two forms of offline transactions which are very tough to be traced, and without online records of a purchase, publishers won’t receive any money.

As of December 2012, there are reportedly only 7.8 million credit card holders in Indonesia. While that number alone is already bigger than the population of Singapore, it’s just a mere three percent of Indonesia’s whole population. Furthermore, given the relative newness of credit cards, it’s likely that only a handful of those Indonesians will use their cards to make online purchases.

Both Adways Indonesia’s Hayato Takano and Interspace Indonesia’s Takashi Matsuura second Suhaili’s concerns, but they are confident that Indonesia’s long term e-commerce growth makes the country a worthwhile market to be in.

Takano adds that they have faith that just like what happens to any market in the world, Indonesia’s online payment and e-commerce market growth would grow side by side. The growth for online transactions is inevitable as online payment systems like Ipaymu and Inapay have room to grow popular too. Besides all that, another challenge that CPA ad platforms are facing in Indonesia is how they need to educate the market first.

Will the new CPA affiliate advertising platforms face difficulties here? Perhaps in the short term, but they would be able reap the benefits in years to come when consumer trust for online payment transactions increases.

PICOOC has raised some one million US dollars in funding. The startup is the second business Mr. Zhang built. His first company, iBokanwisdom, is a chain school that trains mobile developers.
