While there’s excess capital to invest, I thought Huoy-Ming Yeh gave a good alternative view on investing in startups. Most investors in China are investing in trending industries – or basically clones – and that is fine of course. It’s their money. But new and bold ideas should also be invested as she believes that it would help push innovation, and hopefully, also nurture the next “Yao Ming” within the Chinese tech industry.

Ganji (another vice-chairman), Gaopeng (a CEO), and other group buy sites have all also recently lost upper management staff. Insiders at 24quan, another top group buy outfit, say that numerous upper management types are making plans to leave that company as well, mostly because of disagreements with the CEO.

According to InMobi, the average mobile web user in Taiwan consumes six hours of media per day, and mobile accounts for 98 minutes (27 percent) of that total. This is just behind PCs (122 minutes), but ahead of television (88 minutes). Most of this media consumption comes during times when they are commuting or while lying in bed.

Adjust
When “ADJUST” is displayed press and release the switch. The system will restart with “ADJUST” on the message display. The speedometer will show the speed reading. Begin driving at a known speed. When the switch is pressed and held the speedometer reading will begin increasing until the switch is released.

The speedometer is fully adjustable and calibration is described on page 5. VSS wires should be isolated from the ignition system. Coils, plug wires, or tachometer signal wires routed near or with the VSS wire can cause: erratic speedometer operation, speed reading at a standstill, incorrect or difficult calibration.
SPEEDOMETER SETUP
Press and hold the left switch while turning the key on and starting the engine. Once the engine is running, release the switch. When “SPEED” is displayed, press the switch again and then release it. The clock display should switch between “AUTO”, “ADJUST”, “UNIT”, and “SERVIC”.

While there’s certainly lots of overlap between the functions of LiveShare and other social sharing services (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Path, etc) one interesting feature of LiveShare is that it lets you share with other people who don’t have the app installed, as long as they have an email address or a US phone number [2]. While I wouldn’t make use of this feature, I expect someone of an older generation might appreciate this, as they’re likely to have friends who adopt slowly to new social networks [3]. On this point, Cooliris’s APAC director, Derek Tan, tells us:

Return of the classics
Monograms are coming back. Initials are being reworked and recombined. Some are classic, some are contemporary.
A clearer choice
There is so much use of transparency in logo design today that color choices, by necessity, are becoming lighter. Where areas of a design overlap, the new resulting color needs to be readable, not just mud. As a result, color values have been cranked back.

Dribbble and other portfolio sites are great tools but a proliferation of look-alike styles tend to flatten out (and devalue) illustration. As designers' involvement in icon design grows, the influence of illustration on designers grows. So style saturation has also started to affect logo design as well.

モノグラムが再び利用され始めている。あるものは昔ながらに、またあるものは現代風にと、イニシャルに手を加え、再び文字を組み合わせるのだ。

よりクリアな選択
今日のロゴデザインは、透かし効果を多く利用するので、より薄い色がどうしても選ばれてしまうのだ。タップされるデザイン部分は、ベッタとした濃い色ではなく、読みやすい色を持ってくる必要があるのだ。その結果、色の価値に対して再び注目が集まっている。

Dribbbleや色々な作品が掲載されている他のサイトは、素晴しいツールではあるが、あまりにも似たスタイルが多く載っているので、素っ気ない（価値のない）イラストになってしまいがちだ。デザイナー達がアイコンのデザインに関わっていくにつれ、イラストがデザイナーにもたらす影響も大きくなる。流行りのスタイルの浸透が、ロゴデザインにも影響し始めた。

What is it?
There has begun to be a real sense of confusion about the cognizant differences between logos, favicons, app buttons, and icons. For instance, if you show most consumers the Google favicon, they will identify it as Google's logo. This is not technically correct, but emotionally it certainly seems to be.

Even designers are letting that line blur. More than ever before, we create families of icons and symbols for use on electronic devices. More and more, we must design to fit the shape of a logo/icon/favicon into a tiny, round-cornered square. Detail is necessarily lost. Function is completely driving form.

何なんだろう？
ロゴ、ファビコン、アプリボタンやアイコンの認識の違いで、人は本当に混同し始めている。例えばGoogleのファビコンを見せると殆どの人はGoogleのロゴだと判断してしまうのだ。厳密に言えば正しくないが、確かに、そう判断してしまうのは気持ち的には分かる。

デザイナーでさえもその辺の線引きを曖昧にしている。我々は、これまでになく多くのアイコンやシンボルを電子機器用に作成している。我々は、ロゴ/アイコン/ファビコンを、より小さく、角がない四角い形に合う様、デザインしていかねばならないのだ。機能を優先し、ディテール部分がどうしても切り捨てられたデザインになっている。
