"For much of the past decade, one constant gripe within the world of documentary has been a need for more writing and better criticism about the craft of the filmmaking (as opposed to summaries of the plot or lionizations of the subject). So why have two recent, very critical op-ed pieces about The Act of Killing drawn such heat? The answer lies in both the source of the criticism and the method.

An odd thought occurred to me a few hours after I saw writer/director Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" for the first time. It was that Anderson would be the ideal director for a film of "Lolita," or a mini-series of "Ada." Now I know that "Lolita" has been filmed, twice, but the fundamental problem with each version has nothing to do with ability to depict or handle risky content but with a fundamental misapprehension that Nabokov's famous novel took place in the "real world." For all the authentic horror and tragedy of its story, it does not.

Un pensiero bizzarro mi è passato per la mente poco tempo dopo aver visto per la prima volta il film "The Grand Budapest Hotel" del regista/sceneggiatore Wes Anderson. Unfortunately, while "The Trip" was grounded by Coogan's thoughtful, involving character arc, "The Trip to Italy" is knowingly adrift. Here, Coogan shrinks back, shifting the spotlight onto co-star Brydon. So while Brydon nervously makes faces in the mirror, chats up a beautiful stranger, and nervously tries out for a Michael Mann film, Coogan Skypes with his son, and distractedly mocks Brydon's naivete and boisterous insensitivity.

Mentre lo svolgimento narrativo di "The Trip" è basato sull'azzeccato e ben costruito personaggio di Coogan, la trama di "The Trip" è praticamente allo sbando. "The Trip to Italy" is charming, but mostly aimless. It pales in comparison to "The Trip" because, as Winterbottom and the gang admit early on in the film, they're trying to repeat themselves. Much of the film's two-hour runtime is spent trying to recapture that earlier film's energy, especially in scenes where Brydon and Coogan trade impersonations of celebrities like Al Pacino and Michael Caine.

"The Trip to Italy" è un film piacevole, ma senza un senso preciso. Sicuramente inferiore in confronto al precedente "The Trip". Much of the film's effect comes from its visuals. Hitchcock was a master of the classical Hollywood compositional style. It is possible to recognize one of his films after a minute or so entirely because of the camera placement. He used well-known camera language just a little more elegantly. See here how he zooms slowly into faces to show dawning recognition or fear. Watch him use tilt shots to show us things that are not as they should be. He uses contrasting lighted and shadowed areas within the frame to make moral statements, sometimes in anticipation before they are indicated.

Food and drink though, is what Donostia is truly famous for and it certainly did not disappoint. While Spanish tapas have become famous around the world, it’s commonly accepted that the best tapas are actually from Basque Country, and Donostia is the best of the best.

Tapas are called Pinxtos in the Basque language, and are small plates or appetizers. In the Old Town starting at about nine in the evening, begins the tapas crawl. This consists of wandering from bar to bar, eating a pinxto, drinking a small wine or beer, enjoying conversation with friends or people watching, and then moving onto the next one, until the wee hours of the morning.

I like working as a translator and I have been told I’m good at it. I have translated books and articles, both from English to Polish and the other way around. Working with a written text is fun, but what I really love to do is live translation. Even though my long-term memory can be infuriatingly selective, my short-term one is usually pitch-perfect. It comes very easily to me to listen to a large chunk of someone else’s speech and then render it faithfully in its entirety. Since I never take notes, many people who saw me do my shtick say they are stunned by that ability of mine (you can witness it in this video, or this).

J'aime travailler en tant que traducteur et on m'a dit que je suis doué. J'ai traduit des livres et des articles, soit de l'anglais au polonais soit dans le sens inversé. Il est amusant de traduire un texte écrit, mais ce que j'aime fort bien, c'est de travailler en tant qu'interprète.
