Singapore tops Mobile Payments Readiness Index, Philippines second in Southeast Asia

Singapore is the most mobile payment-ready nation in the world, according the the Mobile Payments Readiness Index by MasterCard. Philippines came in second in Southeast Asia, followed by Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

The Index gauges the readiness of 34 countries across the globe in three different categories: Peer-to-peer, mobile commerce, and point-of-sale. An overall score was given for each country, with a score of 60 indicating an inflection point where a country is ready for the mass adoption of mobile payment.

To derive that score, six different factors were weighed on a 0-100 scale:

MasterCard が実施した Mobile Payments Readiness Index （直訳するなら、モバイル決済対応度指数）によると、シンガポールが世界で最もモバイル決済に対応している国だ。東南アジア地域では2位がフィリピンで、マレーシア、タイ、ベトナム、インドネシアと続く。

この指数は、世界34か国の対応度を、個人対個人、モバイルショッピング、そして店頭という3つのカテゴリーで測定する。全体のスコアは各国に対して与えられ、60点は、その国でモバイル決済が広く普及する素地ができているという転換ポイントであることを示す。

このスコアを導き出すため、6つの異なる要因が100段階で重みづけされた。

Consumer Readiness – MasterCard surveyed 1,000 consumers in each of the 34 countries to gauge their familiarity with mobile payment, willingness to use mobile payment and current usage of the three payment types.

Environment – Economic, technological and demographic elements, such as Internet access and per-capita income.

Financial Services – Depth of the financial services sector, including accessibility and affordability, and penetration of digital (plastic card-based) payments.

Infrastructure – Mobile phone penetration, network coverage and breadth of NFC terminals.

Mobile Commerce Clusters – Partnerships among financial services, telecommunications companies, governments and technology providers.

消費者の対応度： MasterCard は34か国それぞれにおいて1000名ずつアンケートを鳥、彼らがどの程度モバイル決済に慣れ親しんでいるか、モバイル決済を使いたいと思っているか、3種類の決済方法の現状の使い方などを調査した。

環境： 経済的、技術的、人口動態的な要因で、例えばインターネットアクセスや1人当りの収入等だ。

金融サービス： 金融サービスセクターの深さであり、電子決済（プラスチックカードをベースとしたもの）へのアクセスの容易さ、利用しやすさ、普及度等を含む。

インフラ： 携帯電話の普及、ネットワークのカバレッジ、NFC 端末の幅広さ。

モバイルコマースクラスター： 金融サービスや通信会社、政府、技術提供業者との提携関係。

Regulation – Structure and efficiency of each market’s legal and governmental bodies.

The average score for all countries is 33.2, far from the inflection point. This indicates that it’s still early days yet for the mobile payment space.

Singapore has emerged on top primarily because of its infrastructure and regulatory environment. All of its population is covered by a mobile phone network, while its laws on information and communication technology are well-developed. Malaysia is within the top ten in both categories.

規制： 各国の市場の法制面や政府関連団体の構造や効率性。

全34か国の平均点は33.2で、転換ポイントをはるかに下回る。このことから分かるのは、モバイル決済の領域にとってはまだまだ初期であるということだ。

シンガポールが1位になったのは、ただただインフラと規制面の環境が原因だ。全人口が携帯電話のネットワークでカバーされており、情報や通信技術に関する法律がよく整備されている。マレーシアは、この両者においてともにトップ10位に入っている。

Generally, countries in the Asia-Pacific have done well in terms of consumer readiness. Filipinos, for instance, are third most open to mobile payments in the world.

Indonesians, on the other hand, are an exception. Their overall score flagged due to the lack of consumer readiness and mobile commerce clusters.

The country’s population are not familiar with mobile payments, and score low on willingness and frequency of use. The upside is that their willingness to use mobile payments score higher than familiarity, meaning with enough marketing and consumer education, Indonesians could be adopting the technology in large numbers.

一般的に、アジア太平洋の国々は、消費者の対応度においては点が高い。例えばフィリピン人は、世界で3番目にモバイル決済に対してオープンだ。

一方、インドネシア人は例外だ。全体のスコアは、消費者対応度とモバイルコマースクラスターのため低くなった。

この国の人々は、モバイル決済に慣れ親しんでおらず、使いたい意向や利用頻度において点が低かった。良かったのは、モバイル決済を使いたい意向が現在の慣れ親しんでいる度合より高いことで、つまり十分なマーケティングや消費者教育が行われれば、インドネシア人も大勢が技術に対応していけるということだ。

Micro Jobs Site Gobann Launches in Beta

Gobann (read: goban a.k.a fifty thousand) has done a soft launch last Tuesday. The site that presents a marketplace for micro jobs with Rp 50.000 service fee is now available in beta.

Gobann is a place where you can promote yourself to do a kangtao (work, or what people abroad called gig) for Rp 50.000. The job is usually a small work but requires special skills such as designing business cards, translations, or other creative things like “heading” a thread at Kaskus.

Gobann （ゴバン、5万のこと） は先週火曜日にソフトローンチをした。5万ルピー（訳者注： 約500円）の手数料がもらえるマイクロジョブの市場を提供するこのサイトは、いまベータ版だ。

Gobann は、ユーザが5万ルピーである kangtao （仕事、或いは海外の人が gig と呼ぶもの） をやるとアピールできる場だ。この仕事は通常、小さいが特別なスキルを要するもの、例えば名刺のデザインや翻訳、あるいは巨大コミュニティサイト Kaskus でスレッドを先導する、等のクリエイティブな仕事のことを言う。

On the other hand, you can find a freelancer to do something (demand) with the same fee. For entrepreneur, Gobann can be the right place to find a freelancer for a small job with cheap fee. You can also find creative people and those who have certain skills to do something.

Currently, Gobann accepts payments through BCA, PayPal and T-Cash. If you see the introductory video on the front page of its website, Gobann still plans for another payment platform to facilitate users to do transaction.

一方で、ユーザは同じ料金で何かをしてくれるフリーランサーを見つけることができる（需要）。起業家にとっては、Gobann は小さな仕事を安い料金でやってくれるフリーランサーを見つけるのに最適な場所かもしれない。クリエイティブな人たちや、何か一定のスキルがある人を見つけることもできる。

現在、Gobann は BCA 及び PayPal、T-Cash での支払いを受け付けている。サイトの最初のページの紹介ビデオを見れば、Gobann が、利用者の取引を促進するために別の決済プラットフォームを準備中であることがわかる。

Gobann is one of the startups selected for Satellite Indonesia organized by e27 some time ago. According to information from e27, Gobann was founded by Michael Luhukay, Teddy Koentjoro and Hyung Gyu Byun. As far as making money goes Goban takes a cut of 20% from the fee. In addition, it also will put an ad and show a feature such as premium kangtao.

A service like what Gobann has to offer is not the first. Abroad, there have been many similar services with the most famous being Fiverr. While in Indonesia, there are Recehan, Serba50Ribu and ApaBoleh (beta).

Gobann が紹介するようなサービスは、これが最初ではない。海外には同様のサービスが多く存在し、最も有名なものは Fiverr だ。インドネシアでは、Recehan、Serba50Ribu、そして ApaBoleh (ベータ版) がある。

Since none of the local services have yet to grow significantly, Gobann and other startups with similar services should try to stay creative. Not only the startup that has to be creative but the startup has to be able stimulate users to be creative. Since each kangtao is sold for only Rp 50.000, the user must be smart to create a job so they can get profit from Gobann.

インドネシアではまだ1社も大きく成長していないため、Gobann や同様のサービスを運営するその他のスタートアップは、クリエイティブであり続けるよう試みるすべきだ。クリエイティブでなくてはならないのはスタートアップだけでなく、スタートアップはユーザがクリエイティブになるよう刺激する力も持っていなければならない。それぞれの kangtao が5万ルピーほどで売られているため、彼らが Gobann から利益を得るには、彼らも仕事を作れるほどにスマートでなければならないのだ。

In terms of the cut by Gobann, I feel that Rp 10.000 is too much. If Gobann expects its users to earn a profit with small transactions but in large amounts, I think Gobann should have the same spirit. They earn a small profit per transaction but trying to increase the number of transaction so that it becomes a big advantage. That’s my opinion because to me, 20% is quite big but some people may think it’s reasonable or maybe even small.

Congratulations for Gobann for its soft launch. May the creative spirit can be an inspiration for many others.

Gobann が取る手数料に関して言えば、1万ルピーは多すぎると思う。Gobann が、ユーザに小さな取引で大きな金額を得て、利益を出してほしいと期待するなら、Gobann は同じ精神を持つべきだ。彼らは、1取引当りでは小さな利益を得るが、取引数を増やそうとするため、それが大きな利点となる。これが私の意見だ。なぜなら、私にとって２０％は非常に大きいからだが、中には20％は妥当だとかいくぶん小さいと思う人もいるかもしれない。

Rocket Internet set to launch price comparison site PricePanda all over SEA

We just received information that Rocket Internet is planning to launch another e-commerce site aiming at South East Asian market. This time is an online price comparison site called PricePanda.

We learned that the website is ready to be launched once they have enough local e-commerce partners to go on even though they already have their own e-commerce companies Zalora and Lazada; which is hardly enough. Right now, Rocket Internet is approaching retailers and local e-commerce companies in the region and ask them to join as partner with the price comparison site hoping to get more inventory for their comparison engine.

Rocket Internet、東南アジア全域を対象とした価格比較サイト PricePanda をローンチ予定

我々がさきほど入手した情報によると、Rocket Internet は、東南アジア市場を狙った新たなEコマースサイトのローンチを計画しているらしい。今回は、PricePanda というオンラインの価格比較サイトだ。

Zalora や Lazada といった彼ら自身のEコマース企業があっても、うまくやれる地元のEコマースパートナーが十分にあれば、サイトのローンチ準備は整うらしい（十分にあることはめったにないが）。現時点で、Rocket Internet は、比較エンジンの在庫を増やすべく、東南アジア地域の小売業者やローカルのEコマース企業にアプローチし、価格比較サイトのパートナーとして加わらないかと誘っている。

Just like most price comparison site out there, PricePanda would enable visitors to view item prices from all e-commerce companies on their site, and direct visitors to their partners’ website to follow up with order and payment. All their e-commerce partners have to do is to share their price lists to PricePanda and they would take care of the rest.

Based on a quick DNS Whois search, looks like Rocket Internet already reserved domain names for Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam so it’s most likely launch simultaneously across the region, as usual. No additional information can be found regarding PricePanda, but I can guarantee this won’t be the last time we’ve heard about PricePanda.

この地域の大半の価格比較サイトと同様、ユーザは、PricePanda のサイトで、全てのEコマース企業の商品の価格を見ることができ、彼らの提携サイトへ直接訪問したユーザは発注と支払を追跡できる。提携しているEコマースサイトは PricePanda と価格リストを共有すればいいだけで、あとは彼らがやってくれる。

DNS Whois 検索をちょっと見た限りでは、Rocket Internet は既にシンガポールやマレーシア、フィリピン、ベトナム向けのドメインを確保しているようで、あまり一般的ではないが、こうした地域で同時にサイトをローンチしてもおかしくない状況だ。これ以上の追加情報は特にないが、PricePanda に関するニュースはこれが最後にはならないことは、私が保証できる。

Indigo Fellowship 2012 Officially Launched

Located at Bandung Digital Valley, last Friday, Telkom Group, along with MIKTI, officially launched Indigo Fellowship 2012 program which enter its fifth year of implementation.

Bringing the theme “For Brighter Digital Creativepreneur”, this year’s Indigo Fellowshop will focus on growing entrepreneurs. As described by Hari S. Sungkari – chairman of the judges, this is what distinguishes the event from last year’s event. The theme will also affect the assessment process to determine the winner.

先週金曜、バンドンデジタルバレーにて Telkom Group は MIKTI とともに、今年5年目の開催となる Indigo Fellowship 2012 のプログラムを公式にローンチした。

「For Brighter Digital Creativepreneur」（造語だが何とか訳すと、より明るく聡明なデジタルクリエイティブ起業家）というテーマを引っ提げ、今年の Indigo Fellowshop は拡大するアントレプレナーに焦点を当てる。審判長を務める Hari S. Sungkari が言った通り、これは、去年のイベントとの違いを示すものだ。テーマは、勝者を決める評価プロセスにも影響する。

12 winners will be selected for the Indigo 2012, with 3 winners for each 4 different categories. Contested categories are Application & Content for Tourism, Health, Education; Comic, Animation, Social Games; Short Movie & Video Clip and Digital Radio. With a special note: the latter category is a special award given by Telkom Group to Suararadio.com.

Indigo 2012 では、4つの異なるカテゴリでそれぞれ3名の勝者が選ばれ、合計12名が選出される。競われるカテゴリは、旅行・健康・教育j向けアプリ＆コンテンツ、コミック・アニメ・ソーシャルゲーム、短編映画＆ビデオクリップ、そしてデジタルラジオだ。特記すべき点は、最後のカテゴリは Telkom Group による特別賞で、Suararadio.com に贈られた。

As written in a press release, the assessment will be focused on the 4Ps, namely Products – originality and quality of item, including its readiness to enter the market, Profitability – clarity of business model, readiness of marketing strategy, business development and financial planning, then Personality & Team – character of individual and team skills, things needed to be a tough digitalpreneur, and the last is Prospect to Collaborate – the prospect for collaboration with Telkom Group, adjusted to Telkom Group’s overall strategy.

プレスリリースに書かれた通り、評価は4Pに着目して行われる。4Pとはつまり、Product（製品－商品の独創性や品質、市場に入る準備ができているかも含め）、Profitability（収益性－ビジネスモデルの明確さ、マーケティング戦略や事業開発、ファイナンスの計画が用意できているか）、Personality & Team （パーソナリティとチーム－個人の正確やチームスキル、タフなデジタル起業家に必要な要素の数々）、そして最後に Prospect to Collaborate（協業の見込み－Telkom Group の全体戦略に合わせて調整した上で Telekom Group と協業の見込みがあるか）の4つである。

Indigo Fellowship is a program of Telkom Group as an appreciation to the individuals or groups who are considered successful in creating digital creative work and deliver benefits to the public, as well as encouraging new digitalpreneur in the digital creative industry. This event is a series of Telkom Group CSR program in ICT field and implemented through operational cooperation with MIKTI.

Indigo Fellowship は Telkom Group のプログラムであり、デジタルでクリエイティブな業界において新しいデジタルプレナー（デジタル起業家）に勇気を与えるだけでなく、デジタルでクリエイティブな仕事を作ることに成功し、公衆に恩恵をもたらしている個人または団体を評価するものである。このイベントは、ICT領域における 一連の Telkom Group CSR プログラムの1つであり、MIKTI の協力による運営されている。

I haven’t find complete information about the amount of profit or a role earned by the winner of previous years, how much value is obtained either from business side or mentoring. But the 3 winners presented in the official launch, namely Infokes, Radio 2.0 and Adventures of Anoman, each of them told the story of benefits, development, learning and the gains as the winner of this program.

昨年の受賞syあによってどれだけの利益や役割が生まれたか、ビジネスまたはメンターサイドでどれだけの価値が得られたか、完全な情報は見つからなかった。しかし、公式ローンチに3名の受賞者（Infokes、Radio 2.0、Adventures of Anoman）が顔を見せ、それぞれがこのプログラムの受賞者としてのメリット、発展、学んだこと、得たものについて語った。

One of interesting developments is Infokes (2010 winner), said by Harry Ramananda, gains a rapid development due to “bundling” with Telkom. The development of its service is now cloud-based with cheaper leasing system than the previous licensing system, and according to plan, will be assisted by Telkom to be introduced to various health centers in the country.

From the above examples and from some of the exposure expressed in the launch event, I also see that with this event, Telkom is trying to hook a lot of content to be integrated or aligned with a variety of products and programs owned by Telkom Group.

上記の例やローンチイベントで紹介されたいくつかの例から、このイベントで Telkom は多くのコンテンツを釣り上げ、Telkom Group が持つ豊富な製品やプログラムと統合したり協業したりしたいのだろうと私は見ている。

It makes sense because Telkom also has the resources or products that do require content, on the participant’s side if the service or product that has been developed has an in-line market benchmark with what Telkom is pursuing, this event can be one option to get a cooperation and market.

Indigo Fellowship is said to give Rp50 million prize for the winner of best work, get mentoring and opportunity to be selected by Telkom and get capital fund and business incubation from Indigo Venture that also owned by Telkom Group. In addition, there’s also an opportunity to take advantage of marketing network, distribution and technology owned by Telkom Group.

これは理にかなっている。Telkom にはコンテンツを必要とするリソースや製品があり、参加者の側でも、もし開発したサービスや製品が Telkom が追い求めるものに沿ったインラインの市場ベンチマークを持っているなら、このイベントは協業やマーケットを得るための選択肢の1つとなりうる。

Indigo Fellowship は最優秀賞受賞者には、5,000万ルピーの賞金と、Telkom からメンタリングを得られ、選ばれるチャンスが与えられ、Telkom Groupが保有する Indigo Venture から資金やビジネス支援を得られる。さらに、Telkom Group の持つマーケティングネットワークや流通、技術を活用する機会もある。
