シリコンバレーではアジャイル開発用語が共通言語となっており、スタートアップにおける最も基本的な前提知識になっています。スマートフォン時代が到来し、日本のスタートアップも、これからは世界のプレイヤーと戦うシーンが増えてくるなか、正しくアジャイル開発を理解し、効率よく開発を展開していかないと負けてしまいます。

Agile software development, having become the buzzword in Silicon Valley, is the most basic prerequisite knowledge with regards to StartUp. With the age of the smartphone era upon us, Japan's StartUp too will likely face many battles with global players. We will be bound for fail if we do not understand the concept of Agile software development correctly and develop it effectively.

"FxCamera" as a startup based in Tokyo, is a free camera app developed by Bitcellar. With users from 225 countries and regions across the world, it has been downloaded a total of 20 over million times and is the No. 2 camera app in the world. A Japan-developed app providing mobile service on such a global scale is few and far between. How are the global mobile services being developed? With this series of articles, we strive to objectively explain the answers.

アジャイル開発についての書籍も何冊か読んだけど、実践できていないスタートアップも、意外と多いのではないでしょうか？この連載を読めば、立ち上げ途中のスタートアップで、アジャイル開発の方法論を、とにかく現場で実践できるよう執筆していきたいと思います。

Aren't there unexpectedly many instances where no practical benefit is reaped by the start up despite having read extensively on Agile software development? With our series of articles, we will illustrate quick and practical usages of the methodology of Agile software development.

第1回：バズワードとしての「アジャイル開発」
「アジャイル開発」「リーンスタートアップ」「ピボット」・・・
この1年ほどで、上記の用語を目にしたり、耳にする機会がとても多くなりました。そしてこの1年ほどで、多くのスタートアップが生まれ、そのうちの多くが消えていきました。横目に見ながら、こんなことを思っていました。
「アジャイル開発」とは「場当たり的な」開発のことを言うのでしょうか？
「リーンスタートアップ」とは「中長期的な計画を持たない会社」のことを言うのでしょうか？

Round 1: "Agile software development" as a password

"Agile software development", "lean startup", "pivots"...
Within a year's time, the chances of encountering them in print and hearing of them has greatly increased. With that, many startups have not only emerged and many of which have disappeared. With a sidelong glance, the following comes to mind. Is this thing called "Agile software development", referring a form of "haphazard" development? Is a "lean startup" referring to "a firm that has no plan to exist in the long run"?

「ピボット」とは「諦め礼賛主義」のことを言うのでしょうか？
「うちはアジャイルな感じなので、臨機応変にやっていますね」とドヤ顔で口にするスタートアップがとても多かったように感じるのです。
「中長期の事業戦略やマイルストーンを明確に定めず、場当たり的な対応に終始するマネージメントをした結果、サービス展開に行き詰まれば、サービス（≒ 機能）の継続を諦め、また新しいサービス（≒ 機能）を立ち上げ、方向転換をする。

Does "pivot" refer to a "cowardly mentality"?
In recent times, it is believed that there have been many startups that say "We follow the Agile system, so we just play by ear".
Without setting the milestones and enterprise strategies for the long haul, they change their focus by employing a reactionary management style by ending the development of services (and functions) and move on to develop new services (and functions) instead.

9月19日に注文したorder6589461284210がPayPalの方では未だに「処理中」という形になっております。

クレジットカードの方はキャンセルという形で処理されていますがPayPalでは「処理中」になっています。

今後この「処理中」というものを解除しないと私自身支障を来してしまいます。

この解除はショップの方でないと「処理中」を解除できないとPayPal側から説明がありました。

早めにこの「処理中」というものを消していただけるとありがたいです。

The order (rder658946128421) I have placed on 19th September is still in the state of "processing" at PayPal.

From the standpoint of the credit card company, the transaction is in the process of cancellation but it is still "processing" in PayPal.

It will create inconveniences in the future if this "processing" status is not corrected.

PayPal has explained that unless the transaction is canceled by the seller, the "processing" status can not be annulled.

I will really appreciate it if you can help to rectify and annul the "processing" status.

What is Kendo
It is a competitive combat between two persons similar to western fencing. Victory is determined through striking pre-determined points on the opponent's body with a blade (shinai) made of bamboo while dressed up in protective gear. The principle of Kendo is "Learn to master the blade and shape yourself".

With its explosion of popularity in the Muromachi period, many schools and denominations have sprung up. It became an art of the warrior in the Edo period. In the 1970s, it became an international sport. Sparring is held in a ring about 10㎡ in size. The person who scores two points first wins the round. The sparring is kept to a standard 5 minutes time limit.
