社殿が洲浜にあるため海水に浸る床柱は腐食しやすく、また永い歴史の間には幾度となく自然災害や火災に見舞われたが、その度に島内外の人々の篤い信仰心に支えられて修理再建され、今日まで荘厳華麗な姿を伝えている。

もみじまんじゅう
名物で、代表的な土産品である。現在では広島市内でも多くの店舗で購入が可能で、広島みやげとして全国的な知名度がある。 
しゃもじ
「必勝」「商売繁盛」などの文字がある飾りしゃもじもある。広島県を本拠地とするスポーツチームの応援にしゃもじを楽器代わりに使う事例も多数ある

Translation

As the main building of the shrine is located along the beach, its alcove posts come into contact with sea water often and are prone to corrosion. Moreover, through the ages, it has weather many fires and natural disasters. Each time it happened, the people both within and outside of the island with their deep faiths, have contributed to its restoration, allowing it to preserve its majestic grandeur up to this age.

Momiji Bun
A famous item and representative local product. At present, there are numerous stores within Hiroshima that sell it and it is well known throughout the country as a souvenir of Hiroshima.

Shamoji (Ladle)
There are shamoji with decorative words such as "Victory" (必勝) and "Prosperity" (商売繁盛). With Hiroshima prefecture as origin, these shamoji have many usages and have replaced musical instruments when cheering on local sports teams.

剣道とは 
西洋のフェンシングに似たスポーツで、ふたりで戦う競技。プロテクターを着用して、
竹で作られた刀(しない)で、決められた身体の部位を打ったり、突いたりし合って、勝ち負けを決める。剣道の理念は、「剣を学び、上達することによる、人間形成の道である」

室町時代に盛んになり、多くの流派を生んだ。江戸時代には武士の芸となった。1970年代には世界的なスポーツになる。競技は約10㎡の試合場で行われる。先に2本取った方が勝つ。試合時間は5分を基準とする

What is Kendo
It is a competitive combat between two persons similar to western fencing. Victory is determined through striking pre-determined points on the opponent's body with a blade (shinai) made of bamboo while dressed up in protective gear. The principle of Kendo is "Learn to master the blade and shape yourself".

With its explosion of popularity in the Muromachi period, many schools and denominations have sprung up. It became an art of the warrior in the Edo period. In the 1970s, it became an international sport. Sparring is held in a ring about 10㎡ in size. The person who scores two points first wins the round. The sparring is kept to a standard 5 minutes time limit.
