The Brazilian government and representatives of its insurance sector have agreed to 15 more days of negotiations over the creation of a state-run insurer, to be known as EBS, the finance ministry said in a statement.
The two had agreed to a 15-day negotiation period on July 20, when insurance federation CNSeg introduced a new proposal for the government to create a state-run manager for guarantee funds of co-insurance and reinsurance rather than a full insurance company.
The finance ministry's secretary of economic policy, Nelson Barbosa, said that a full proposal should be delivered to finance minister Guido Mantega and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva by the end of August.
