日本自動車工業会の志賀俊之会長は13日の定例会見で、収益源として期待される新興国市場について、価格では地場メーカーと戦えないとして、日本のブランド力を買ってもらう努力が必要との考えを示した。
志賀会長は「日本のメーカーが少し前のように『安かろう良かろう』という形で、世界のシェアをとっていく時代はたぶん終わったと認識している。特に新興国では我々が通常戦っている日本メーカー同士、 あるいは韓国メーカー、欧州メーカーとの戦い以外に、新興国の地場メーカーとの戦いも入っている。そういう所では価格ゾーンでの戦いになるが、我々の価格差をしっかりとブランド力として（現地の消費者に）みてもらわない限り、厳しいだろう」と指摘。
その上で「そういう意味でいうと、モノづくりを引き続き極めていくと同時に、日本の製品がもっとしっかりとブランド力をつけて、新興国のお客様に日本のブランドとして買って頂く、そういう努力は重要になってくるのではないかと思う」と述べた。
