Isozaki Shrine
Tamura City Designated Tangible Cultural Property
It is unknown when the shrine was built, but the current shrine was rebuilt in 1894.
The shrine is built on a cliff dotted with megaliths, and the three main pillars are made of natural stone.
Isozaki shrine's largest feature is that it is a very unusual structure, where one must go through the floors of the shrine and come up in order to worship.
The architectural method of building temples and shrines along cliffs and steep slopes is called "kakezukuri."
