福島県福島市から山形県米沢市を結ぶ道路は、1881年に開通し明治天皇により万世大路と名付けられた。
二ツ小屋トンネル(384m)は、万世大路に2つあるトンネルの一つです。
1934年(昭和9年)に自動車が通行できるように、拡張工事が行われました。
1966年(昭和41年)には、冬季の豪雪時にも通行できるように新たな場所にトンネルを開通させ、万世大路はその役割を終えて廃道になりました。

Nitsu-Koya Tunnel (Abandoned Road)

The road connecting Fukushima City of Fukushima Prefecture and Yonezawa City of Yamagata Prefecture was opened in 1881and named the Bansei Highway by the Meiji Emperor.

Nitsu-Koya Tunnel (384m) is one of two tunnels along the Bansei Highway.

It was expanded in 1934 (Showa period year 9) to allow cars to use it too.

In 1966 (Showa period year 41), a new tunnel at a different location was opened to allow traffic even in heavy snow, thus ending the use the highway.
