This plate was given to my parents as a koudengaeshi, a gift for their donation for OO's funeral.
Koudengaeshi is a Japanese custom, given to attendees of funerals, as a token of gratitude from the family of the deceased.
I kept it together with the letter of thanks from OO's son.

This plate was treated with the finest beautiful lacquer by a skilled artisan and drawn with 5 lines of OO's haiku and Japanese images such as bamboo and peach leaves.

This plate has historical value. A entirely similar plate is stored in OO's memorial hall. I prefer the outer case in this condition.

This plate is what my relative received as a return gift for the donation when he/she joined the funeral of ○○. Receiving a gift for the funeral donation is a Japanese custom in which the bereaved family returns a gift to you as a token for their gratitude when you attended the funeral. There was also a gratitude letter that the son of ○○ sent me.

This plate is beautifully lacquered by an experienced craftsman, where the five haiku verses written by ○○ and Japanese paintings such as bamboos and Japanese mayple are drawn.

This plate has a historic value, and another identical plate is kept at the ○○ Memorial Hall. Regarding the outer box, this one is in a better condition.

This dish was a present given in return for a funeral offering for OO's funeral service when my relatives attended. According to Japanese custom, a present given in return for a funeral offering is something given by the family of the deceased to show gratitude for attendance at the funeral.
We have kept this together with a letter of thanks from OO's son.

This most beautiful lacquerware dish, made by the skill of the craftsman, is inscribed with 5 haiku read by OO, and a painting of bamboo and autumn leaves respectively.

This dish has a historical value and an identical one is kept by the OO memorial museum. The outer case of this one is in a very good condition.
