この皿は、○○の葬儀に私の親族が参列した時に頂いた香典返しの皿です。
香典返しとは日本の風習で、葬儀の参列者に対し、故人の親族がお礼を込めて贈る品物です。
○○の息子から頂いた礼状も、一緒に保管してありました。

この皿は熟練の職人によって最高に美しい漆塗りが施され、○○が読んだ５首の俳句と、竹やモミジの葉などの日本画がそれぞれに描かれています。

この皿は歴史的価値があり、全く同じものが○○記念館に所蔵されています。外箱に関してはこちらの方が保存状態が良好です。

This plate was given to my parents as a koudengaeshi, a gift for their donation for OO's funeral.
Koudengaeshi is a Japanese custom, given to attendees of funerals, as a token of gratitude from the family of the deceased.
I kept it together with the letter of thanks from OO's son.

This plate was treated with the finest beautiful lacquer by a skilled artisan and drawn with 5 lines of OO's haiku and Japanese images such as bamboo and peach leaves.

This plate has historical value. A entirely similar plate is stored in OO's memorial hall. I prefer the outer case in this condition.
