This dish was a present given in return for a funeral offering for OO's funeral service when my relatives attended. According to Japanese custom, a present given in return for a funeral offering is something given by the family of the deceased to show gratitude for attendance at the funeral.
We have kept this together with a letter of thanks from OO's son.
This most beautiful lacquerware dish, made by the skill of the craftsman, is inscribed with 5 haiku read by OO, and a painting of bamboo and autumn leaves respectively.
This dish has a historical value and an identical one is kept by the OO memorial museum. The outer case of this one is in a very good condition.
