アイデアはヨーロッパにあったものを、アメリカで実用化した例がきわめて多い。その最初のものがノギスであった。 ブラウンはロードアイランド州の生まれで、若いときから工場で
機械技術を学び、１８３３年父に呼び戻されて、時計の生産を始めるようになる。
時計生産に当たっては、当時のどの機械よりも要求される精度が高かった。

As "manufacturing by compatible system" had been developed and used commonly, each type of measuring technology was developed and the precise measuring equipment was manufactured.
Although the idea originated in Europe, many were manufactured and used in the States. The first one was Norius. Brown was born in Rhode Island, and had studied machine technology in the factory since he was young.
In 1833, he was requested by his father to return to him, and started to manufacture the watch.
His watch was required the most precise technology among the watches at that time.
