Today we are introducing the management theory by Drucker with a fable.

This is a fable of three carving craftsmen.
The story is like the following.

The three carving craftsmen have started working.
A traveller who had a great interest in the carved stones just passed by, and looked for the first carving craftsman.

"What are you doing?"

The first carving craftsman answered "for the sake of saving money" to this usual question with a boring-looking face.

The travelled came to the second carving craftsman and asked the same question.

"For the sake of equipping myself with the perfect carving technique", he answered with a moodless and flat tone.

Today I introduce a parable in Drucker's management theory.
The story is about three stonecutting craftsmen, and is as following.
A pilgrim was passing where three stonecutting craftsmen were working, and was interested in stonecutting work.
He asked one of them. "What are you doing?"
The craftsman replied with "Earning money", with bore-looking surface as though it's a matter of course.
And the pilgrim asked the next craftsman the same question passing beside him.
He replied impassively and dispassionately "I am doing my job to master the best technique of stone craft."

Today I will introduce one fable written by Mr.Drucker on management theory.

This story is about 3 stone-cutters.
Story is as follows:-

3 stone-cutters were working.
A traveler who was passing by had interest in stone-cutting work and therefore inquired first stone-cutter
that "What are you doing?".

First stone-cutter thought that why would someone ask such obvious questions and replied with a boring face "To earn money".

Traveler asked the same question as he passed by the second stone-cutter.
He replied indifferently with an expressionless face "To acquire skills of no.1 stone-cutter".

The traveller looked for the third carving craftsman.

The third carving craftsman looked upon the sky with the glittering eyes, and answered.
"For building the great temple. The great temple I built let many people make their prayers there, and it becomes a peaceful place for everyone. I carve because I see this dream."

If I am asked the same question, I would answer in the same way.

I have founded the company.
Thru this company, a lot of people can understand the new value set in this world, and try to use the new value set to share with others, and be touched by the happiness within, in order to enrich their lives.
With this dream in my heart, I work till late every day.

"What do you work for?"

The pilgrim inquired the third craftsman also.Looking up sky and lightening eyes, the third craftsman answered like this."I am building up a big temple. I'm cutting stones dreaming that many people would pray be comforted in the temple that I made, " If I inquired the same question I would answer as below.I am establishing a company. Many people would be informed new values from around the world, use those with testing and sharing, rejoice and be impressed, and make their lives richer through this company. I work until late everyday dreaming it. "For what are you working ?"

The traveler asked a third stone cutter.

The third stone cutter looked up to the sky with shining eyes, and answered.

「I am making a large temple. Many people will pray at the large temple I made, which become their place of peace.
That's what I dream about while I cut the stones.」

If I were to be asked a same question, here is how I will answer.

I am creating a company.
Many will know new values from around the world through this company, and by using, trying, and sharing it, they would feel happiness and be touched, making their life more enriched.
That is my dream and thus I work everyday until late at night.

「To what do you work for?」

Traveler asked the third stone-cutter too.

Third stone-cutter looked up at the sky and replied with sparkling eyes.
"I am making a large temple. Large number of people will pray in the temple made by me and it will become a place of peace for them".

If I am asked the same question, I will reply like this:-

"I am making a company.
Many people will learn about the merits from the world through this company.
Using, trying and sharing those merits, they will feel delighted and their life will
become wealthier".
That is my dream for which I work till late night daily.

What do you work for?
