At Lake Biwa, where phragmites winters and propagates depending on the warm water naturally and steadily springing due to the influence of the volcano, I have made a research on the relationship between the species' survival and the atmosphere temperature during the winter.
In winter, the water springing to Lake Biwa was 8 degrees Celsius.
When the minimum air temperature was 0 degrees, the spring water was stable at 6 degrees; phragmites was able to overwinter at such environment.
