In case of an environment where the minimum temperature of water is above 7 degrees during winter, a tropical phragmites seems to be able to pass the winter. The water is warm enough, it does not matter if it is a spring water or a discharged one.

In order for the phragmites to overwinter, the water must be over 6 degrees Celsius. If there are warm spring water or a warm discharged water, the condition is qualified for phragmites to survive.
