現代では書道に関しても表具に関してもモダンな創作がもてはやされています。ある先輩は、創作表具をやればやるほど結局、最終的に伝統的な形式である掛軸、表具の素晴らしさに気づかされるとのことです。
正直、私はその境地まで行き着くほど創作表具をしていませんが、先輩の話を聞いて深く感銘いたしました。
みんなの気をひこうと色々なデザインにしてお客様を喜ばせようと努力します。
もちろんそれはそれでおもしろいと思うし業界が盛り上がることは多いに賛成です。
しかし、それは時として基本からはずれます。

Modern creation gains popularity in calligraphy and paperhanging. One of my seniors says that the more paperhanging he creates, the more he realizes the beauty of hanging scrolls, which is the traditional form of paperhanging.
To be honest with you, I have not created so many paperhanging as to reach the goal. However, I was really moved by his words.
Many people try using various attractive designs to satisfy the customers.
Of course it is interesting and give a boost to the business field. I am in favor of that point.

歴史背景とはかけ離れたものになります。
表具の基本を理解した上であえて基本からはずれた創作表具をするのか、それとも何もわからず創作表具をするのかでは深みが違ってくるでしょう。もちろんそれを理解する事は難しいかもしれない。
長年の歴史の中で無駄が削ぎ落とされ残されてきた形式の素晴らしさを物語るエピソードだとおもいます。
わたしはこの仕事につけた事を本当にほこりに思います。
歴史を重んじ現代に応用する。
このすばらしい表具をひとりでも多くの人に知ってもらいたい。
そう願ってやみません。

I think this is the episode where the fluff had been cut out and had created a wonderful form in the long history.
I am very proud of getting this job.
We have a high regard for our history and apply it to the modern things.
I want as many people as possible to see this wonderful paperhanging.
